Keeping the file size down

Hello this is my first day using cakewalk software and this is what I need it to do, so if anyone can help it is much appreciated..

I'm a very auditory learner so I purchased a microphone that has this cakewalk program, while I know its very advanced and has alot of features the main thing I'd like to accomplish is simply to record my voice reading my text books so I can play them back on my phone or mp3 player or my winamp on my Computer...

so a decent quality recording with minimum file size.

for example I used the windows in system mic recording program and got a 11 min clip around 8MB... but can't pause, edit etc...

use cakewalk, export to wma clip for approx the same time is 31 MB ...

That's more or less in the right ball park.

    It's about 10 meg a min for full stereo (44.1 16bit), so 11 minutes = 110Mb, mono = 55Mb

size = sample rate * number of channels * (bits per sample /8) * time in seconds.

It's recommended that you do this is 2 stages - frst export it as a wav and listen to it for anything that needs correcting, then dump it down into Mp3

That will shrink it up to about 8Mb (or thereabouts)
