Kenfucious
Hi All , I hope you enjoy my new song song Kenfucious https://soundcloud.com/guitarist-kenny-wilson/kenfucious The short story is I'm playing my 8 string as the backbone of the song . My 8 string playing is also the bass part. In addition to playing 8 string I played some other things musical on various instruments that I triggered VIA midi using my guitar ... As it stands now my song is still considered a work in progress by me . But hey , don't let that stop you from enjoying what I have recorded so far . OK all the best , Kenny

Hi Kenny, I'm pleased to be the first to comment on this - great to hear something new from you! This is wonderful, funky, slick, jazzy, playful, and some very tasty lead lines. Big smiles here!

Sounds very accomplished here Kenny like the tone of the Bass when it wonders up the register. Some nice licks mix works well here, thanks for sharing

Hey Wookiee , This was a very tricky tune right out of the gate . Using an 8 string guitar instead of a bass has taught me a few things .. Thank you for your comments both here and over at SoundCloud ..They are very much appreciated daryl1968 Great stuff Kenny

Hi Malcolm , It is real nice to see you again on the forum I hope all is well with you and you are living life to the fullest . You know , I still think about the song Crow you wrote where I laid a few guitar parts down as a collab mate . I had given Crow a listen last week when I was poking around listening to some of my older song projects .. Very good stuff and it was a real blast to have worked with you on that song. Thank you for the Super Kind words you have said there is a very large part of me that wishes I can live up to them ... I will settle for every so often being able to post a tune that may put a smile on your face and tickle a few eardrums along the way ... all the best , Kenny

hey, i dig this one! i like how you change up each of the intro sections.. each one has it's own version of the main riff.. bass sounds really good in the mix. reminds me a little bit of something wayne krantz would do. you could put a lyric on top of the main verse theme, and call this a jazzy rock song. lyric content? how about..... getting lost in the mall parking lot.

Nice one Kenny. Sometimes it's hard to comment on a genre you don't listen to much, so I pay more attention to the skill of the musician. And you've got the skill for sure. As a side note, just wanted to say that I like the positive attitude you always seem to have.

Hi Kenny All well here. Still pottering around my little Isle, celebrating the seasons and being a general nuisance - same as always! Yes, Crow was special; you added so many extra dimensions to it and gave it such drive and 'bubble' I still reckon it was the best collaboration I've been lucky enough to be a part of. I've given up writing music at the moment. Nothing new to say lyric-wise and musically. But if I change my mind and need a maestro on the guitar, be assured you are at the top of the list! Hope all is well with you Take care Malcolm

Hi batsbrew , I'm certainly open to your suggestions . I'm happy you gave my tune a listen and then came here to offer them What's currently posted is the state of a musical Plateau I have gotten to so far in the songs development . I like the way you sing man , I wish I could sing half as good as you When they were passing out vocal chords I was at the back of the line trying to get more guitar picks & strings Tell you what , if you want to do something on this tune have a go at it ... The tune is 86 BPM . Even the silence breaks line up to tempo . bjornpdx Nice one Kenny. Hi bjornpdx , I'm glad you gave this song of mine a listen I'm super happy you dig my playing skills...means a lot to me . Sure I understand how it is when listening to genre's of music that are different than what I'm accustomed to ... To tell you the truth I had no idea as to what Genre of music my song fit into when I went to post it ... So I created my own Genre . It's listed right there in the genre hash tag as # Kenfusion As far as trying to keep a positive attitude , whew that sure is a tough one for me. ( thank you PTSD ) My life is a work in progress and I get Kenfused very easily . I try very hard to step back and keep my tongue and pen in check ... At times I do suffer from an energy drain from having done battle with my Waring emotions that are constantly seeking expression in my dealings with my fellow man and women .... IMHO, attempting to take the High Road seems to be the easier softer way ... the emotional pay off is far greater when it comes to finding moments of inner Peace ...no matter how fleeting ... thank you for the song listen timidi Rock on Kenny Corea..
Hi Tim , I Love it & I Wish that one was true for sure . When I was playing and writing this song I knew deep down in my heart that I was compensating for the fact that after all my years of playing the guitar , I had never learned how to play Chic Corea's Spain ..... that's my story and I'm sticking to it .. thank you for the listen Kenny

So, anyway, from memory, Gmaj7, F#13b5 or something or other, Em, A7, Dmaj7 etc. That's all the brain cells have left:)

Hi Charlie H , Thank you for taking the time to listen , I'm glad you enjoyed my tune Sure you may be right , the drums in this song do sound a little scooped even to me now after you mention it . When I was starting out with the tune I was thinking along the lines of a snappy type of fusion drum sound . It seemed to work out OK when it was just my 8 String guitar and drums . Anyway it's no big thing . I built up all the other parts as a separate project and it would be very easy for me to change the overall sounds of my drums now that the song is more set than when I started it ... thanks . Wayfarer I used to be a real fusion head, so needless to say, I like this! And I'm pretty sure the guys in Cell Block #9 can even dance to it.
Hi Wayfarer , I also dug my share of Fusion when I was younger . I'm happy you liked my tune I would hope the guys in Cell Block #9 would dance to it if I ever wound up in there with them .. I would sure hate to have to suffer through an a$$ kicking if they didn't feel like dancing to it all the best, Kenny

I'm with others on the Corea/fusion angle - loved it. Sure, the drum sound could use a little TLC but in the end I didn't care 'cause the tune itself is so freakin' cool. It kinda makes me want to do something fusion-y, something that's never really crossed my mind before. So.... kudos!

Hi Steve , I certainly respect your opinion Plus I happen to Love the Progressive Rock songs you create . Say, it may be time for us both to switch it up a little ... One day real soon I may set out to write and perform a progressive Rock tune along the lines of what you do ... I would Love to hear how you would sound writing a tune along the lines of the Corea/fusion angle.. I'm sure you would do very good because not only do you have the chops on the guitar I know you have a tremendous amount of production and arranging chops .... There is a fair amount of keyboard work that I played VIA my midi guitar using non keyboard types of sounds . The regular keyboard sound aka the block chords you mentioned were my way of keeping it simple to outline the tunes changes ... thank you for the listen and constructive comments. Voda La Void Pretty interesting to hear 8 string guitar outside of the metal context. Wish I was at home and could play drums to this. Nice work, man.
Hi Voda La Void , I have both a 7 and an 8 string .Yes it is true that most players will use those guitars for Metal . My primary reason for getting them was to be able to have access to the full range of the usable octaves a keyboardist would play in . ( minus the super high end and lows ) Since I don't play Keys (all that well ) I wanted to have a much fuller range to choose from on the guitar ... Yeah I love playing all kinds of music on my extended range guitars . I'm long over due for creating some Metal tunes. If you ever wind up playing drums to this let me know how it works out ... Thank you for giving this song a listen markno999 Kenny, Great track. Big fan of the guitar playing...
Regards
Hi Markno , I'm very happy that you dug my tune and I was able to play some guitar that you enjoyed . Thank you for the kind words all the best, Kenny

Hey Kenny, what I really like about this aside from the groovy bassline, funky as all get-out drums, beautiful guitar tones and great arrangement is: those catchy unusual chord changes. And, to top it all off -- a great mix and recording. Bravo !! ~~ Allan
