Keyboard Midi Help

Hello,

I have a Yamaha PSR E223 and I recently bought a Midi to USB cable off Amazon. The link is this for the cable. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004IJ5FEU/ref=oss_product

I have connected everything up and the drivers for the cable were automatically installed. I then went into the MIDI settings and selected Midi In and Out as the USB Midi device.

However, my computer does not seem to be receiving anything from my keyboard when I press record.

Can someone please help me with this!

What Cakewalk product are you using?
Do you have a midi track to record into?
Is the midi track enabled to record?
Have you set the input on the midi track to your midi input device?

in OPTIONS>MIDI DEVICES (assuming Sonar 8.5 or below, not X1) do you have the USB MIDI device selected and moved to the top for the INPUT?

also, I would not trust the drivers that load "automatically" from windows.  go to yamaha's website and download the drivers for your keyboard and install them.

Yes the USB MIDI device is at the top for INPUT and OUTPUT.

I meant the drivers for the MIDI to USB cable. My friend has the same thing and it works with his keyboard so I am not sure why mine isn't working. He has a different keyboard to what I have got.

ah - then my question is what is the USB/MIDI cable you're using?  some of the older yamaha keyboards won't work with non-yamaha USB/MIDI cables.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004IJ5FEU/ref=oss_product This cheap one on Amazon. A Yamaha USB/MIDI cable is so expensive! :(

I"m not positive that's the problem, but I have seen other people in the past have problems with yamahas and non-yamaha MIDI/USB cables.

I have had 2 yamahas which did NOT do that, but I've never had your model.
