King Of The Road - a cover in memory...

... of my father. His favorite Roger Miller song.

King Of The Road <----- Soundcloud Link

Yeah I cheated and used a free MIDI file.
Acoustic Guitar is Real Guitar
Bass & Strings are TTS-1
Drums are Slate SSD4 Country 1
Piano is Ivory II C7 Studio
Vox were tuned and still have some rough edges but I thought it gave it a "real" feel since my father was worse singer than I am (if Mooch can believe that).

    Hehe..I work at a hotel one day a week, and was sweeping the drive on Friday, humming this song.

    Love it, nice laid-back version Ed. Bass is nice but would have been better 'done real'. Vocals are pretty good too, after a shaky start.

    Wow, had to rip the 'phones off when the next track kicked in..ouch.

    Hey Baps... I love the articulation on the bass turn around... it sounds like he knows how to play bass.

    It's even better than:

    It's a classic. I'm not sure what the odds are that two different people would be covering this at the same time are, but they're long odds.

    @Old55 (aka Jan) - Thanks. I had a version of actually "Monkeys sure make a good pet"

    @James - Ya, I may do the bass live in a while since I have other projects on my plate now

    @McQ - If we did a left right it might end up another Strawberry Fields Forever

    @Kevin & Robby - Thanks for listening

    @Lynn - Thanks, he would have thought I was a real singer if he had heard this

    @Daryk - Fanks mate

    @Beagle - Ya, on it's own Real Guitar is pretty phenominal but it's the CLA plug that, IMO, makes it shine. I should use that combo more often, ya?

    Neat-O Ed...
    I saw Roger Miller years ago in Memphis, and he had this crazy good guitar player with him, named Danny Gatton... I'd never heard anyone play a Telecaster like him... he was the bomb...

    I never knew Danny Gatton played with Roger Miller.

    Too cool. Danny

    Gatton is about as close to an all time favorite as I can think of.

    He's the one guy I've heard who could probably actually roller skate in a buffalo herd.

    How did I miss this? I swear I replied? Now that I think about it, didn't Mike do this too? Well, anyway, it's good. It brought back a lot of memories. I sang it back in the day. I used to do this one in the very first band I was in. Bub

    Nice version.  I remember listening to this w/ my Dad in the car back in the 60s.  One of the few LPs my folks had - this and a "Taste of Honey."  Is that next on the list?

    And you would think the vocals were great if you heard me sing.  But I sound good in the shower and car w/ the windows rolled up.
