Do you need the latest version of Kontakt or can you upgrade from an earlier version? (I didn't see this at the Sweetwater site)...

Uh.. good question. I don't recall seeing a specific vesion number mentioned for the Sweetwater crossgrade offer, and since I do have v5 I didn't inquire. I got a confirmation email from my sales rep just this morning though, so I can ask if you'd like.

bigcat That is a great deal plus you get candy. Wow jimusic how did you get K5 for $50? I got it for $200 over the summer and thought that was good.
Yeah - it was a December upgrade price from Kontakt 4 which I bought on KVR for $120 earlier last fall. Actually, I wasn't going to go for anything at all on NI's site, but then when they had their December sale, I just couldn't resist getting K5 for $49.50, Scarbee Rickenbaker Bass for $49.50 & Guitar 5 Pro Upgrade from G-Rig 4 for $34.50. Then I went back & got Session Horns for $49.50 as well, since I now had K5 to run it. It was 50% sale for the whole month [IIRC]. I didn't think the 50% sale would apply to the upgrade prices as well but sure enough it did. I also added the Upright & Berlin Concert Pianos @ MF for $19 each, [although it cost a little bit more than that to get them through the door]. Some good deals to be had for sure! I use K5, Session Horns, Scarbee Ricky Bass & the Upright Piano almost daily now.

Some nice deals there. That Rick is a great Bass. Also I love freebies and you can get a ludicrous amount of free instruments for K5. I have no idea what I'm doing with it, but Reaktor is like one of those old radio shack electronic labs for audio, you run the wires around and see what squawks you can make. Releases your inner ten year old.

I have K5 and Guitar rig . I didn't even know I had Reaktor until I looked on an older disk I had, so I have an older version of Reaktor. I have quite a few of the Sampletekk pianos and Addicitve Keys, plus the pianos that came with K5. I don't remember now what I payed for my copy of Kontakt 5 but I remember getting it for a good deal...I also bought Studio Drummer awhile back...so for a guy like me is it really worth it? What else is in there that would make this worth the purchase? Are the mastering plug ins top notch? I usually play a real bass when I record. I guess I could translate it into midi and use the scarbee....too many questions. I think I'm covered on the synth end pretty well with Rapture and ZT3a-2. I have some nice orchestral sample libraries for K5 in addition to the ones shipped. Still...don't push me too hard, I might jump. Don't give me too many reasons

Any products you have that are part of Komplete, certainly on a disc, you can sell on, as long as it's not used as part of the upgrade path. That's a saving right there. I would ask about any products you have from NI and see what they allow or don't allow. No harm in asking! It could make a sizeable dent in the cost. While you can sell them on KVR, which is safer, you can sell them elsewhere for a much better price. People on KVR, like me, expect them for next to nothing but people on auction sites are just happy for a reduction.

I don't know about worth $200 (Bapu, you kidder you...:) but I did play with it today and it has a lot more going for it than I first thought. When I first cranked it on my initial reaction was Whoa, listen to those lower registers and after messing with it for an hour, or so, I saved a preset that I am pretty happy with that includes a decent half pedal. I still intend to tweak it a little more which means it has my interest. I really wish NI would have represented this better with some well made presets that were not just washed out in space or overly resonant just to make it sound BIG. I'd still say it was at least worth half of the admission price.

Funny, I was just thinking about Radio Shack earlier today and how they use to give out a free battery every month when I was a kid. As far as K5, it really is easier to get started and up & running with it than it seems. I was quite surprised how soon I learned to use it, and now I'm almost completely comfortable with it to boldly venture into the rest of what I have yet to learn.

I am starting to remember why I have a love/hate relationship with NI. Right now it's more of the later than the former. I wonder it they have any affiliation with IK multimedia???

I spent lot of time going through and listening to demos of everything in Komplete 9 .I tried really hard to convince myself that I needed it. If I were bigger into electronic music I would have been like a kid at Gamestop. Lots of sounds in there for that genre and similar ones. There's a lot to like about the collection. If I had only one title to crossgrade it would have been a no brainer.

+1 I've spent a few hours now just going through Reaktor, Absynth, Massive and Battery - wow, the synth aspect is nice! But I also like some of the additional Kontakt libraries that don't come with Kontakt itself, like Vintage Organ, four different piano libraries, the Scarbee bass, etc. Overall I'm finding it to be money well spent, at least for someone like myself who only owns Kontakt... and purchased recently enough to not have any additional libraries. There's enough in there to keep busy for a while! Thanks again to Larry for this thread!

Well I must report back as I posted above that NI would not allow transfer of down load products but they did. I received the email today saying they had removed the serials from my account and the new buyer will need to contact NI so that they can register the serial to the new buyer which can then down load and install the library. Cool! Hey stevec, if you want Vintage Organ send me a PM and maybe we can work something out. I also have The Giant and Retro Machines MK II. Kind regards, Rick
