For a number of reasons (see Hardware forum) I'm hanging on to my Mk1. Will get the 37-key Mk2 with recording interface (already included in Maschine) as soon as it's launched ;)

The instrument previews could be a game changer for auditioning Kontakt libraries in particular. I hope it works with the Mk1 boards.

This new Komplete Kontrol seems to hang when scanning plugins using iLok protection. I've got the most recent version of iLok License Manager but for some reason Komplete Kontrol hangs (inside the iLok code) on EastWest Play, iZotope RX 4 and Exponential Audio R2. All of them are using my hardware iLok and all are slightly older in one way or another. I'm running Play 4.3.5 since 5.x has issues and RX4 is just older (my other iZotope plugins seem to scan in Komplete Kontrol OK). Every time it gets to one of them it just hangs. Other apps don't seem to have a problem with these plugins (SONAR/Abelton/Reaper) but Komplete Kontrol seems to hang every time. Anyone else having a problem with Komplete Kontrol's plugin scanner?

I just ran it for the first time, and it scanned and then crashed on UVI Workstation. I tried running it again, and it wouldn't run. Opened the task manager, and it was showing as still running. I ended the task, and then re-ran it, and it completed the scan, however everything wasn't showing up. I then had to re-run it, and it scanned everything, including iLok apps. I guess "Third time's the charm" applies here...
It also told me, after getting it to run, that I need to install the Library update thing if I wanted to use the new "Instrument Preview" feature, and told me to open Native Access and install it. I opened Native Access and there was nothing there, and the preview does not work...so don't know what's going on with that..I'll have to dig into it.

Updated Kontakt and Komplete Kontrol without any of the issues reported elsewhere. But I do use the default paths for the DLLs etc. I was sent a serial number for Native Preview and I downloaded and installed it. There were a couple of error messages on installation, I suspect there are a few corrupt preview files but it all seems to be working. I am liking this a lot, browsing in Komplete Kontrol I only have to click on a preset to get an idea of how it sounds. Its working not only for the NI stuff but also the OTS Guitars, Arturia V collection, The AAS modeling collection and XILS 4. The previews do not seem to be triggered when scrolling through presets on my S61 which is a shame. But it looks good for the first itteration.

I got my serial number, but the installer is failing because the directory they are trying to access is far too long. File paths like that don't work in Windows. I might be OK if my Native Instrument content directory was closer to the root. But it's not. So sick of these Mac-centric, non-testing developers that appear to have no clue how the world works.

That explains the few errors I saw but it did not stop the installation. Looks like certain previews wont be available. Hopefully they will sort it. I will check the NI forums tomorrow.

So the Preview installer is a giant 8gig ISO, which Native Access downloaded. I mounted it and ran the installer by hand. Oddly enough when doing it that way the suggested install location was the User Public Documents folder (instead of the directory I have configured in Native Access). But even more interesting is the suggest directory name was NBPL instead of the fully spelled out "Native Browser Preview Library" that Native Access forces you to use. I pointed it to a drive with storage for 8gigs of previews and a shorter path. The install took awhile but completed without errors. If you use the fully spelled out "Native Browser Preview Library" and put that at the root of a hard drive, the longest filename ends up being 253 characters long. Which is almost too long as it is. 260 is a hard limit but practically anything longer than 247 can be a problem. But if instead of "Native Browser Preview Library" you use "NBPL" that path ends up being only 227, which gives you enough room for a sub-directory or two and still stay under 260. By installing it by hand and setting the install dir I put it in L:\Content\NBPL without any failures.

Looks like the 8gigs of previews includes products I don't even own. Looks like previews for every NKS instrument.

Well its going to take a bit of space for a preview of every NKS preset going but the utility it adds to browsing is very useful. Getting an idea of of the sound of a preset before loading the instrument is going to be a huge time saver, particularly with large Kontakt libraries or looking for sounds across multiple VSTi's.
I will uninstall and do a manual reinstallation with a shorter path later.

On their forum they announced they have renamed the product in Native Access to just "Previews" which will reduce the path requirement a bit. Doesn't actually fix the problem but it certainly makes it work for a few more people. To figure if this will work for you, in Native Access take the Content Location setting in the preferences and count how many characters it is, then add 229 (that is the length of the longest path plus 1 for the leading slash and 1 for the NULL at the end). That will be the longest path the current installer needs. 260 is a hard limit, so with the new "Previews" name your Content directory path can't be more than 31 characters long. My current content directory for NKS/Library instruments is "G:\Content\Native Instruments", which is 29. Here's one of the longest file name (there are a couple of file names with this same length in the install) "\Previews\Samples\d98e97c2-a913-407d-bb67-00532c24b11a\Instruments\_Stereo Mixes_\_Advanced_\Individual articulations\d - High Strings Half Section\.previews\d - High Strings Half Section - FX 4 (Cluster Swells) (Stereo).nki.ogg" Add that to your Content directory. If that total length is under 260 you may be OK.

I got the ISO because I killed the installer when it started spewing errors on the file path. The ISO was left in the NI download folder. I then mounted it and hand ran the installer. Not sure there is any other way to get it.

Installed without issues. My root installation path was F:/Komplete. Hopefully this was just an initial quick fix and the deeper causes will be addressed in the next update. For those worried about the size, it goes by default to your Komplete content location which is more managable than putting with the applications. Of course this one will get bigger as more NKS products become available.

Yes, you should get a serial number to register in Native Access, it then becomes available. The email comes is titled "IMPORTANT: How to activate the new sound previews feature" and comes from noreply(at)orders.native-instruments.com If you did not get the email go to your NI account and you should find the serial number there.

I think in the future the previews will be installed with the instruments themselves (at least I thought I read something like that) but since none of the existing NKS supported products have these previews, NI kickstarted everything by shipping every single NKS product's previews. They could have make Kontrol download the files from a server to match the NKS products you have installed/registered. I guess that was too much work or something. So instead they will waste 8gigs of disc space and force everyone to download and install 8gigs of data. It is interesting in that their are previews for Rob Papen instrument presets that now work for me. If only Komplete Kontrol was resizeable I might actually consider using it.

I don't have any hardware and they sent me a serial number (I have Komplete Kontrol due to Komplete Ultimate). They did say they were sending them out slowly to manage the download. The mail with my serial number was sent from noreply@orders.native-instruments.com and the title "IMPORTANT: How to activate the new sound previews feature" maybe it got classified as spam? I know I almost missed it. I got mine on Oct 5.
