Kontakt 4: "Locking memory does not seem to be working properly"

Get this error message when opening the project.

Info:

1. Upgraded to win7 64 bit recently.
2. In the mix of a 120 track project, only two softsynts; Kontakt 3, and Kontaktplayer 4;, using four sounds from Peter Siedlaczek's Complete classical collection 2, library.
3. Task manager shows 3,11 GB of physical memory in use (of 4Gb total)
4. Cpu and disk usage is between 5 and 25 % throughout the project. Mixing with ASIO buffer size 512 samples, 24bit - 48 kHz.
5. The whole error message:

"Kontakt 4:
Locking memory does not seem to be working
properly. This can happen under certain
circumstances, such as running multiple
standalone instances simultaneously. This
may also result in bad performance, notes
being cut off, script features not working
as expected, or this may cause dropouts or
may affect system stability."

The project crashes sometimes. Have also got this message on other projects I'm working with, without the project crashing.
This particular mix should be sent to mastering within two days. System info below.  Appreciate help.

Did you try archiving all softsynths except one, freeze it, unarchive the next, freeze it and so on and so on?

When I freeze Kontaktplayer 4, the error message doesn't occur, so I guess Kontakt 4 is the problem.

It's only Kontakt's problem to the extent that it's using an enormous amount of RAM. At 3.11GB total in use, you've maxed out! Windows needs memory, too, and because it calls the shots (every program has to request memory from Windows), when RAM starts to run short Windows will favor itself over any applications.

I'm guessing that the "locking" the message refers to has to do with forcing samples to be buffered in memory rather than streaming everything from disk. If that assumption is correct, switching to all-DFD might be the solution. Or splitting your tracks among multiple instances of Kontakt and freezing all but the one you're currently working on.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

    Thanks  Bitflipper -

Have installed 6 gb ram (even if just 4 gb shows up as physical memory in task manager) , and assumed 3 gb ram load was managable.

You don't mention if you've installed the 64 bit version of Sonar.

How is it  - if Sonar is 32 bit with a 64 bit OS will the whole amount of memory be used, or does the 3+ gb limit  stick to the 32 bit program?

There must be a reason the full amount of memory doesn't show in Task Manager. Does it show in BIOS?

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.

    Yes, I run Sonar 64bit.

The 6gb shows up in bios and in windows system info it says:  Installed RAM 6 GB (4GB can be used)

Haven't noticed this before. Anyone who knows why I can't use the last two GB?

Installed RAM 6 GB (4GB can be used)

That's typically one of two things...
    1.  Incorrect RAM timing settings (go into the BIOS to fix)
    2.  Bad stick of RAM

As far as the system is concerned, there's currently 4GB of useable RAM.

Thanks Jim - just before I start tweaking on the dreaded  BIOS:

I have six RAM slots, and has placed the three 2GB sticks in slots 1,2 and 3.   Should I try moving them to different slots?

Install them in the three matching (color) tripple-channel slots... starting with the slot closest to the outside edge of the motherboard (furthest away from the CPU).
Then, I'd go into the BIOS and check the RAM timing...

Great - Thanks a lot Jim - replaced the RAM sticks and task manager now shows 6GB ram, and no warnings from the softsynts.

    I love this forum.
