[SOLVED] Kontakt 5 is causing SONAR Platinum to hang

More information - it seems to be okay until I actually load an instrument in Kontakt. I tried uninstalling Kontakt 5 and reinstalling but have the same results. It actually WILL come back (I hadn't waited long enough before) but will hang again after showing then hiding the Kontakt interface. It hangs for about 5-6 minutes.

Is it possible you're inadvertently running the 32-bit version of SONAR after the re-install?

At this point, it might be worth re personalizing Sonar.
Hold down CTRL and double click on the Sonar desktop icon (CTRL+Start Sonar).
It will ask if you want to re personalize, select yes. go through the rescan process.
 
it could be an update. are you up to date on all windows updates ?
also make sure your graphics are all up to date. some of the Kontakts library's can be graphic intensive and require the latest versions of graphics drivers. as well as sonar using open GL. you need these updates.

After I updated to the most recent SONAR Platinum, any project, new or existing, with Kontakt 5 in it, will open, but then SONAR stops responding and stays that way. I tried some other Native Instruments VSTs, and they don't seem to be causing the same problem. My Kontakt 5 is at version 5.5.2.880, the latest from the update tab.
 
This is frustrating and I could sure use some help...

Tried to reproduce. There are 3 Kontakt choices, does it happen to all of them?

I have Windows Updates disabled and haven't done an update other than the first day I installed the OS,
2 or more years ago, and Kontakt 5 runs perfectly on the most recent version of splat.

When istalling splat 2 days ago it updated 2 things but other than that
I don't do Windows updates and have never had a problem because of it.
That partition is music only and never anything else unless it's music software related.

nVidia...not the first time that name has popped up. First, don't trust Windows to know what's the right driver. Always get graphics drivers from the manufacturer's site. I had a big problem with a Radeon card and had the "latest update." But I didn't. When I got it from the site, all was well. Also, try rolling back your graphics driver to a previous version.

Have you tried Kontakt in any other host applications? VSTHost from here http://www.hermannseib.com/english/vsthost.htm is pretty lightweight.

@adrian.crossan - Wow... I wish that I had tried that earlier! It fails the same way in Reaper 5.23/x64, too. 
@shawker - It seems to work fine in standalone. No hangs and with multiple libraries tested. That implies it could be something related to being hosted.

Okay - if it's possible that it's graphics card related, can anyone propose a decent graphics card that I might try to see if it's that?

I had a similar problem with a Kontakt 5 upgrade.  What solved it for me was to reinstall Kontakt 5.  Just make sure that the VST option has a check mark beside it.  When I initially upgraded I didn't see that it was not checked!  You might try and see if this is the problem.
 

I'm running latest Win 10 and Kontakt 5 updates without any issues in Sonar (other than specific bugs with Sonar I've mentioned elsewhere).
 
I would clean out the VST folders, both 32-bit and 64-bit, of any Kontakt DLLs, including previous versions if they exist. Then manually copy or reinstall. It might be best to search your whole system for Kontakt DLLs but I would definitely check *all* the VST folder locations configured within Sonar regardless of what is supposed to be in them.
 
Its possible a damaged DLL has not been removed before reinstalling and is sitting there laughing in the face of uninstall protocols.
 
If you've already done a thorough clean of your system for pre-existing versions, I'd probably have a look at the Sonar settings. What bit depth and frequency do you run at? Try reducing those settings and see how Kontakt behaves. NI products sometimes get a bit over-excited at higher settings and don't stop gracefully (I'm looking at you Reaktor). If no difference then return them to previous state.
 
Personally, I'd also have a nosey in the registry but I don't recommend that unless your very sure of your ability to recover from any mis-clicks in there.

@MarioD - thanks for the suggestion. I've already uninstalled and re-installed Kontakt 5, and it made no difference.
@Roo Stercogburn - I'll look for Kontakt 5 dlls and clean them up and re-install, but I normally just run my SONAR projects at 44.1K, so I'm not doing any high bit rate projects anyway, so I doubt that's the issue. 
 
I find it interesting that Bassman is having the same issue as me! It makes me wonder if perhaps some dependency DLL got changed by one or more of the updates and it conflicts with Kontakt 5 or something...

With VSTpaths all is ok, only 3 dlls on PC! 
What registry keys would you look for??
 
When I open Kontakt and I click on the Browser I can see that it is searching on and on for about 15 min. that's not normal action....maybe it's searching for a network path??

I have not changed anything, all paths are the same as always. Same Problem with Standalone Version, Browser is searching for about 15 minutes.
Tried to install an older Version, doesn't hang, but gives an error (your version is too old) loading my libraries.
 
Hm, looks like I have to write in the NI Forum......not a Sonar Problem IMHO.
