Kontakt 5 not working in Sonar x1

Hello, I'm new to Sonar. I have written music in Finale and converted it to midi. I opened the midi file into Sonar x1 but all I get it basic midi sounds. I insert>soft synth>Kontakt 5, changed the outputs to Kontakt 5 and midi channels to match. I still get the basic midi sounds or I get no sounds at all. Even when I play the note in the Kontakt 5 property page I get no sound even though I see the volume meter rises. Is there steps I'm missing? Kontakt 5 works fine in Finale but nothing in Sonar. Could someone give me steps to fix this problem. Thanks

Have you tried inserting it as a simple instrument track, i.e. when the "Insert Soft Synth Options" window comes up, make sure "Simple Instrument Track" is selected under "Create These Tracks:"?

This should ensure that all inputs and outputs are set correctly for you and you should hear sound.

I did, still no sound. When I copy paste my midi into the track then playback. I see the volume rises like it is playing but no sound is coming out.

If Kontakt is showing output it's likely just a problem in the routing from Kontakt to Sonar, or you could always have a group or something soloed in Kontakt and not realize it. I was using Kontakt 4 yesterday and it worked as expected.

Have you tried other libraries/instruments in Kontakt? If not try that. If you're hearing sound, it means there's something going on in the patch/project that's giving you trouble. If you don't hear anything in any instruments in Kontakt, then it's almost certainly an issue with how Kontakt is being routed to Sonar.

Also, which Kontakt .dll are you using? The one of the multi-out versions or the single stereo?

When you say you "changed the outputs to Kontakt 5" what do you mean by that? The only thing that should be outputting to Kontakt 5 should be the MIDI track. The audio track should have Kontakt 5 as its input, and the Master buss as its output.

I am using the single stereo Kontakt 5. I've used both 8 out and 16 out. Still nothing. If it is a routing issue how do i fix it? I changed the "output to" from my sound card SB x-fi to Kontakt 5. No change. In my Finale, Kontakt is set to bank 1. In Sonar, there is no bank 1 only bank 0, is that the problem?

Hi, new to Sonar person.  I use Kontakt as my go-to synth, and have for a number of years, with no trouble.

I do have a couple of questions for you:

    1.  What audio interface are you using?

    2.  What is the sample rate specified in the audio interface?

    3.  What audio driver mode are you using in Sonar?  You can check this by going to Edit>Preferences, then look in the Audio section.  You should be using ASIO, rather than WDM drivers, if at all possible.

    4.  What is the sample rate set to in Sonar?  (Also in preferences in the audio section).  This must match the sample rate set in the audio interface.

    5.  If you import an MP3 into an audio track in Sonar, does it play back properly?  (just seeing if your sound output is working correctly.  To import an MP3 file into Sonar, click on the left side of an audio track to bring it into focus, then click on File, then Import then Audio, and select an MP3 file to import.  Sonar will import it into the track you selected, and it will have its default routing set to go the master bus.

Thanks - this is probably quite frustrating for you, but the forum folks will work to help you resolve this.

One more thing, most folks in the forum add their system specs to their forum profile's signature, which helps others to know what kind of operating system and hardware/software environment is on a given system - makes it easier to help people.

If you don't mind, please look near the top of the forum page and hover your mouse over the button that says 'User Control Panel', then click on 'Edit Profile'.  Once there, click on the tab that says Signature, and add your specs there.  You can look at the bottom of my post for an example of listing your specs,or look at anyone else's if you would rather.

Once you add your specs, you also have to check the box to tell the forum software to add your signature to your posts.  Once you have this all done, your specs will be listed at the bottom of any other posts you make, and the rest of us will have a clue as to what kind of hardware and software setup you have.

I got it to work, but it was a hassle. I didn't have a ASIO driver. I don't have an external audio interface. It's working properly now. Thank you for your help.

Nice you got it working. What bothered me was you did not mention loading an instrument in Kontakt, so my first thought was that might be the problem.

Yeah...it worked for a while. Now my Kontakt 5 keeps freezing now. Everytime I load an instrument it freezes. Is there a fix to this?

we can probably do a lot of to and fro questions but it will be easier for you to open Sonar, Press F1 and when the help file opens go to the tutorials. There is one speifically on inserting softsynths. also one on setting up your audio device/sound card.
