Kontakt - Weird consistent pop when using Scarbee MM-Bass

When I'm using Scarbee MM-Bass (a Kontakt instrument), I often hear pops and clicks, particularly when I'm trying different articulations.

I recorded a short test using Sonar. During playback I hear a pop in the same place each time. Even when I render it to audio, I hear the pop in the same place!

The pop is present in both Sonar 8.5.3 and X1b, and on 2 different sound cards (one ASIO and the other WDM). Increasing the audio latency does not help.

The fact that the rendered audio contains the pop suggests that Scarbee MM-Bass itself is generating the pop, and not the sound card.

Since Scarbee MM-Bass is developed by Native Instruments, I posted these questions on their forum.  However, the Sonar forum always seems to get me more responses, even about Kontakt, so I'm posting here as well in hopes that some of you Kontakt users can offer suggestions.  Also, my project file is Sonar.

I attached my Sonar project to my second post here: http://www.native-instrum...howthread.php?p=862604 - it's called pop.zip.  It's just a simple, short bass line using Kontakt.

In this simplified project, the pop isn't actually 100% reproducible.  Sometimes, the first long chord plays and I don't hear the pop at the marker.  Most often, however, the first long chord gets chopped off, and I hear the pop later on.  The two glitches seem to be related.

When you play the project, can you hear the pop?

Has anyone else had this problem with MM-Bass or any other Kontakt instruments? Is there a workaround?

Could this problem be related to a volume spike? I notice the volume fader on the midi track is all the way up and the other faders are at 0 db. Also, do the pops occur where you have cc 64 events inserted?

I don't have Kontakt but the first thing I would try would be to lower all the faders down to -6 db, or lower, on the fader db scale and see if that had any effect on the problem.

I hear the pop even if I turn the MIDI volume way down.

I uploaded another version of the project to the Kontakt post.  It's pop-simple.zip.  This project is reduced to the simplest possible test case, which is 3 notes and one articulation.  The pop occurs as long as those events are present.  If you delete any event, the problem goes away.

    Computer specs, sound card?

Depending on the above, you may need to raise the latency slider. Pops usually happen when your soundcard or computer can't process the data fast enough.

Happens on 2 different sound cards.  See sig for system specs.
you may need to raise the latency slider.

Addressed in 3rd paragraph in top post.

My suspicions were the same as yours, that it was a hardware issue.  However, it appears to be a bug in the actual soft synth.  What I'm trying to find out is if other people can reproduce the bug, and if there is a workaround.

Is anyone able to reproduce the bug?

(Also, is there a way I can attach the project to a post on this forum or are attachments disabled here)?

Native Instruments says they cannot reproduce the bug, although I am not convinced they have even tried to open my project.

Can someone on here please try it?

    Thanks!

Native Instruments has confirmed that they are able to reproduce the bug in my project.  They don't have an ETA for a fix.

Have you tried starting a brand new project, just insert Kontakt and set up your test again from scratch?

Try it and see what happens.

I have tried Scarbee MM-Bass in many projects, and I have always gotten the popping.  I also get the popping when I run MM-Bass in standalone Kontakt.

So, it's definitely not Sonar-specific, and not machine specific.

The Native Instruments tech confirmed the bug.  I'm now trying to find out if it's OS-specific or universal.
