Korg Legacy plugins available separately now
I have just purchased the Korg Wavestaion plugin form KorgUserNet. It used to be bundled with the M1 and cost a lot more. But they have now seen the light and are allowing you to purchase various Korg plugin synths all separately for only $49 each! I used to own the Wavestation and sold it and I was sad to see it go but at last I have got it back. It does sound amazing and you get all the patches that came out for it so there are hundreds of patches to be had. The plugin sounds very very nice indeed and is no way inferior to the real instrument. Not a real big CPU hog either, very effecient. It has a lovely warm and fat sound as well as very digital and icy when it needs to be. But then I suppose all you Wavestation owners out there will know what I am talking about. The wave sequences are great too and quite inspiring.

That's great news! I have an older Korg Legacy set, including the Poly 6, Wavestation and MS-20. The main reason I bought it was for the Poly 6, because that was the 2nd synth I ever owned. I think they did a great job on these plug ins, they are very similar to the hardware version of years gone by. Good to know you can buy some separately now, I'll have to go take a look.

Also here is a link to a huge selection of quality free Wavestation RAM banks. These load directly into the plugin. http://www.korgforums.com...35a27b0c73b0536fcba762 Go to the third post down and the link is there. I have just download them and started testing some and they are very very good indeed. People have been pretty generous here giving away these sounds!

Jeff, thanx for the link to the Wavestation banks. I purchased the M1/Wavestation combo a few years ago. They are indeed very good sounding synths.

Thanks Jeff I remember my friend picked up a new M1 a just after its release for around £1500 IIRC and we just marvelled at it for weeks afterward. An M1 and WS for $50 each now that is a no brainer. Being as these were digital workstations of the time I would imagine the VSTi's are pretty faithful if not identical clones. I wonder if there's a good editor/librarian out there for them these days as they (particularly the M1) used to take a fair bit of button pushing to get past the presets.

Great news. I'm a huge Korg fan and a former owner of many Korg products...including the Wavestation and Korg M1 (and T3). I couldn't be without my Korg Wavestation plugin. Go get ya some!!

The Plugins are very faithful recreations. One review put the Wavestation ahead in sound to the actual machine. Not sure about that, but it does sound very good. One thing too is that they have extended the functions in some cases. The M1 plugin is more sophisticated and complex than the actual M1. It is the best M1 they have made. Also you get every PCM sound that came out for it so you end up with quite a large sound library that is extensive and great sounding in any situation. I have restored an old M1 I found here at work and it is great and still sounds excellent. If you switch off a lot of the 80's effects and start applying more modern effects, it takes on a whole new sound. I like the action as well and use it as my mother controller. They put some decent lead weights in their actions at the time and it feels good to play. Better than the other controller I have which is an M Audio Axiom 61. Editing the plugins Jonbouy is also pretty OK too. Because the plugins are laid out like an editor anyway and you can get into the parameters easily and they are often represented visually. Envelopes etc... I must admit I prefer having the Wavesation plugin and using it as an editor, it is quite a bit more deep than the M1. I have got pretty effecient at actually editing M1 sounds on the machine. There are not too many layers to the menus. But as you say for $100 those two machines are a very worthwhile addition to any composers toolkit.

I'd have to agree that sonically the plugs sound better than my two analog units. Two great units for an incredible price. Ain't technology great?!

Thanks for the info Jeff Evans. Got the M1, need payday to come around for the Wavestation. Ex-M1 owner here...it sounds very very good indeed. Very familiar, very happy. sb

I had a tough decision in picking 1 as I've never used any of the Korg Synths before......but, went ahead with the M1.

the neat thing about the wavestation VST is the "motion" wave patches sync to Midi clock and create some interesting rhythms, plus you can assign a CC to the vector joystick

Having (a long time ago) purchased a couple of M3Rs and a bunch of sound cards for a total sum probably approaching $2500, it seemed too cheap to pass up. Apart from the USB dongle hogging a USB port (do they still do it that way?), I still think it wasn't a bad deal at all. At $50 per, it's close to no-brainer territory, especially if they've gotten rid of that %$&*-ing dongle requirement.

Yes, no more dongle, and you can also get the whole sheeebang (5 synths + multi-effect) for $200... so if you're like me, and you only really wanted the M1 and WS, are already pretty well covered in the polysix/monopoly/MS-20 dept., but just can't seem to pass up all plugs at $33 each instead of "just two" at $50 each, then you'll understand my sickness.

I'd have to agree that sonically the plugs sound better than my two analog units. One particularly nice advantage of the software M1... it has a resonant low-pass filter (the hardware M1 has a low-pass filter sans resonance). So the software version is more flexible in conjuring classic synth sounds. When the M1 was released, it was a HUGE leap. I remember loving to play the sax patches... and the slap bass. Think I drove some music store employees crazy... But hey... I get payback anytime I step into GuitarCenter on a weekend.
