Korg NanoKontrol and Sonar 8
Has anyone out there tried using the new Korg NanoKontrol with Sonar 8? I can assign the faders, pots, switches etc. for remote control of the console, but the transport controls dont seem to work, or there isnt an apparent remote for those functions. I was recently able to assign the transport controls easily in Reason 4, so i know it can be done. Any ideas?

Assuming the transport controls can be set up to send MIDI MMC messages (which is a reasonably common option on most external controllers e.g my Novation keyboard can do that), then you need to set up the MMC control surface plugin (it comes with Sonar, just go to control surfaces/add or whatever and it should be listed). Point this at your Korg and then Sonar's transport should be controllable.

easy go mario..errm rob.. does it say anything about sending a midi message in the manual for it? it should be a case of going into the key bindings, and doing a midi learn. does it respond when you do a midi learn? or maybe not

Funny thing is, you can get the faders in console mode to learn, but when i right click on a transport button, it comes up with anything but remote control functions. In Reason 4, you just right click on a transport button and then assign/learn the command sent from the nanoKontrol, of which i have loaded the correct factory settings apparently. I keep on learning a bit more as I poke around, so when i get the answer i can post it for other nanocontrl users to see! When it works it will be amazing! It's like having a faderport X 8 and then some!

My transport buttons work just fine on my NanoKontrol. I just assigned an ACT MIDI controller then checked the box by "Active Controller Technology" then LEFT clicked in the lower empty box under B1,B2,B3 etc. to get ACT to learn the NanoKontrol buttons. Dont forget to "Add new controller/surface" in the OPTIONS/Controller/surfaces section (it's the small yellow star button just below and to the left of the help button in that menu) and assign the input/output for the controller there too. Hope this helps! : )

Thanks Mr. Goblin! What I was lacking was the knowledge on how to call up that panel in the first place! I had everything else OK. Works better than i could have expected...very cool having instant control over 8 tracks at once!

Glad you got it working! Why just 8 tracks? With the 4 scenes I've got (vol fader, pan, mute, rec arm) for 36 tracks (using the "Cakewalk Generic Surface" and selecting 36 strips in the options). I've got an ACT controller controlling the Nano loop button but I set it to "bounce to tracks" instead of loop. : )

Thanks for the advice again....what i meant to say was that i could lay my hands on the controller and control all the physical faders all at once hence the 8 (9) tracks at once. I like the idea about setting the loop button to bounce to tracks, and i will try that. I was just very grateful to have it work last night! Many thanks again to everyone responding!

Guys, this is a great thread - was glad to see someone posted experience with the Korg NanoKontrol. For the money, this thing looks great. Two quick questions: 1. As Goblin says, he sets it up as banks. How do you jump to the next or prev bank, when there is no bank switch? did you just assign an existing button to "next" or "prev" bank? 2. Are the faders motorized? Thanks!

Thanks nprime - I saw the Korg website info, and figured they were not motorized, but it didn't say so either way. Still for the money looks pretty cool.

socaldrummer, You need to use the Scene button to go "through the banks"...They are very cool control surfaces and now I will get mine going with 8.5.2 tonight
