Korg extended-does it suck????

My mixing skills are terrible. I am not sure if the bass guitar is too loud or if it just needs some EQing.
Thanks for your help the song is called "Korg"

Korg

Edit 01-07-06: The song has been extended and scratch vocals added.

The bass is nice, possibly not loud enough (!) but there's a lot of bottom end on the kit and pad which is really pushing everything below around 150-200Hz through the roof. You might try dropping everything below ~400 Hz on the pad, roll off below ~80 Hz on the kit, and boost the bass about 3db. Nice sounds, man!

Doesn't sound too bad to me...

The best is always yet to come. Now...shut up and make some noise!

    Kevin,
You never cease to amaze me the way you can pick out frequencies like that.
OK, I made your suggested changes...to the best of my ability, what do you think now?

I think that gave the bass some space and needed separation. What do you think about the change?

What separate instruments are on your tracks specifically? Is that air pad separate from the atmosphere pad? Those two sounds in particular are still fighting for some space, and there's some frequencies in the drum loop getting caught right in the middle. If the air sound is separate, could it be panned just a bit to the right (and brought down a touch) to try to separate it from the atmosphere pad?

You might try experimenting with a slight cut with a wide Q (~1) somewhere in the mid EQ bands on the drum loop. Once you find the sweet spot that should minimize a lot of side-bands in that track and will separate it from the other tracks. Regardless of EQ, that's a GREAT loop for what you're doing here.

Love the sweeps - I absolutely love that texture. If that's a separate track, you might try experimenting with it using pan envelopes and a crossing delay just for something cool to play with, but it's just an idea and certainly nothing crucial to the groove.

This is really great stuff dude, thanks for sharing!

    sounds pretty good here too.
A bit more compression on that bass to tame it into place. A small drop in volume at around 200Hz. And EQ the echo on the drums so that it doesn't conflict with them (knock off some highs and lows) and you're almost there.

    Thanks Paul and BlindDog,
I have spent the last couple days expanding the tune so I haven't applied your mix suggestions yet but I will. I added temporary scratch vocals...until I can get a better singer into the studio.

New comments are welcome from all. I plan on adding a guitar solo at 2:20

    Thanks,
    Troy

Dude, you have nothing to worry about with the vox. Bring that vocal up, cut back the verb a touch, and you're there. NICE stuff, I only wish I could make out all the words.

Sounds great to me. Love that bass, suits the track perfectly imo. The panning drums work well too. Good one.

Yeah, BlindDog (a/k/a Kevin) was really helpful when I was finishing up a mix of my last one. I am almost done with a new one, so I am hoping I can get yours (and everyone's) input. (Sorry about the mini-hi jack)

I found my vocalist but thanks for the encouragement.

If you knew how much vocal editing I did with v-vocal you might change your mind.

I didn't hit one pitch right.
