Korg microSTATION and X1

Hi there,

I know my way around Sonar fairly well, but haven't done much with hardware synths. I recently purchased a Korg microSTATION and I really like it. (I also have a Korg microCONTROL running Sonar Synths, and act etc with no scary issues).

I have installed the Korg USB driver and  Microstation Editor.  The editor runs as a standalone and as a plug in in Sonar.  When I run Sonar *after* the Microstation is powered up I end up with a MIDI input (microSTATION Keyboard, and a MIDI out (microSTATION Sound).  I  can use midi tracks to accept input from the keyboard and output back to the synth and hear sounds.  In Program mode I can select patches, and same for Combis.  In Sequence Mode I can have multiple tracks, each with a different Midi channel and it plays the corresponding instrument on the synth.  WHat you cannot do is change patches within a sequence mode - that is that the plug in editor is for.

Sorry about the wordy intro.  When I run the plug in I get a "microSTATION Hardware not found. Rescan All MIDI devices?" error dialog.  When I hit OK to scan the devices, I notice that although the  microSTATION Sound device shows up, the microSTATION Keyboard does not, and the editor does not get a connection.

If I delete the editor, go to Edit Prefs and turn off the microSTATION Keyboard, when I reload the Editor  plugin it connections and I can use it with the microKONTROL, but not with the microStation's own keyboard.  If at this point I go back to Edit prefs to turn the microSTATION Keyboard device back on, it will not let me until I delete the plug in again.

If I try to run the  standalone version with Sonar open it fails to load.

What I would like to do, and believe I should be able to is run Sonar (X1C Expanded) and use the MICROSTATION plug in, and the actual MICROSTATION  keyboard together.

All help appreciated.

Grif

keep in mind that if you want to use microSTATION in multitimbral mode you should press "SEQ" button. Otherwise you'll be able to play just one PROG or COMBI at once.

Second thing - use jBridge to convert M50 plugin to 64bit version, if you're using 64bit system.

In case you'll not able to achieve full functionality, just post here, I'll try to help you online or something, but notice, that English isn't my first language ;-)

Thanks StarTekh, very kind.  I took a look at Adriand4U's article and it appear to describe my symptoms exactly, so I will  check that route first.

    Thanks again,

I had no contact with microSTATION editor, but M50 is little older, so if in M50 editor in "global" settings Korg put checkbox "send MIDI out of editor", I suppose you'll find similar in mS.

With korg microX I had the same problem (Sonar and Ableton), but I haven't found solution.

What "funnt" - there was NO PROBLEMS with Cubase 5.

And - I know it from my friend - there is NO PROBLEM on Mac - no matter if you use Ableton or Logic.

    Hi Adrian,

worked a treat - thank you.  I can use it in Seq mode and use the Midi tracks in Sonar to select the Midi channel (each one going to a "Track" in the Korg while using the Korg Editor to select the patch for each track - very convenient.  Also I can use it in combi mode and use patch or editor to select the combi.  Equally useful - Combis are great for creating a single instrument like a drawbar organ so it can be very useful to set up in sequence mode to get the backing sorted, bounce the instuments, and then use a combi for lead stuff.

    Thanks again

In a fact I've noticed little weird behaviour of M50 and Z1...

    1. I can't record MIDI on M50 Editor MIDI track using M50 keyboard (it doesn't receive MIDI from M50 keyboard), but I can record MIDI from M50 to any other track
    2. Theres something with sustain communicate but (for what I've checked) only with Z1 used as a soundmodule. When playing M50 MIDI to Z1 thru Sonar's MIDI track, I have "continuus" sustain...

as you can see there are few more things for me to get rid of.

    Still working

SOLVED. Sonar or something sent a wild SysEx - after Z1 reboot and bring back factory seting all is OK
