Korg nano kontrol 2 : Advice to set up as an ACT controller

I know there are several posts on setting up the Korg nano kontrol 2 ( I have looked at them all I think ), but I still can't get the device to work as an ACT midi controller. I can use the Mackie Control surface OK, and the buttons, faders and rotaries on the nano kontroller work as you would expect. But as soon as I try to use the Act midi contoller surface everything falls apart. The midi learn function doesn't seem to work properly and the ACT learn doesn't then work either. For example when I apply the midi learn to one of the rotaries it sometimes works OK, sometimes does nothing, and at other times operates at set points on the scale ( 52% and 100% for example. Are there any new in-sights out there as to how to set this up in a fool prove way. I'm using X3 producer.
