I liked this: "It’s called a California Girl, or Cali Girl for short, has five latches and is well used. It was given that name, apparently, because of its curvy shape." That may part of it, but they ARE "brown on the outside, and pink on the inside". Just sayin', kinda like girls from California, or so I remember... T

i love the simple design, i like it better with the guard off, not a super top, but a nice figured flame, beautiful patina, the neck, a testament to what a good luthier can do with broken wood. but best of all, was how kossoff played it.

Michigan maple rarely compares to all the North West maple everyone uses these days. Most of the "real" burst's ('58-'60) have "mediocre" tops by comparison. But this one has a pretty good top as "real" burst's go... Unfortunately, for players like me, it is all in the hands. T

Joe wears his influences on his sleeve (he plays alot of Eric Johnson, among others). That being said the guy is a great guitar player. Robben Ford still reigns supreme for the "urban" blues players in my book though. Just so tasty. T

You hear everyone from the past when JB is playing. I don't find he has any style of his own but excels in sounding like the old timers.

I'm sure Joe will own this guitar before long and there will be a write-up in GP magazine. J

I thought there were more posts in this thread , did somebody trim it and pull the pics ? Anyway , I was lucky enough to have gotten to seen Paul Kossof play live w Free ,,,, His sound was so dead balls on … His tone , vibrato , note selections and phrasing set him head and shoulders above many of the other folks that were out there back then .. I loved his playing just as much as I loved Clapton , BB King , Leslie West , Santana , Page and Roy Buchanan ….. I wish that style of Rock would make a comeback and be popular again …..just wishing out loud … Kenny

Free opened at the fabulous Forum for Blind Faith in '69. I thought who are these cocky little ba$tard$, bring on EC & company. Then it dawned on me; this might be the highlight of the night. It was! Paul was a damn fine guitarist, and paired with arguably one of the best of the Brit vocalists. Well, the rest is/was history; eh? No tampering with this thread, just the state of the forum/CH these days. All is quite on the western front... T

batsbrew i hear a LOT of kossoff's style in Joe Bonamassa's playing.
Heard an interview with JB where he cited Kossoff and other British blues players like Peter Green & Rory Gallagher as his earliest influences. Said he then went back and discovered their influences, Muddy Waters, BB King etc etc. Bonamassa gets a lot of flak about being a 'rich kid' who got one on one tuition from Danny Gatton, but I don't share that view, he's a superb player, very melodic even when he's 'shredding'.
