LA Scoring Strings Problem

This happens only in sonar because I’ve tried the same in live 8 and no problems. What happens is that sonar crashes when loading the la scoring strings legato patches in different kontakt 4 instances. When I put all of the legato patches in one instance of kontakt 4 nothing happens but when I spread the through different instances I use them for a while and suddenly it crashes. A dialog appears and it says that memory couldn’t be read or something like that.

I spread them for panning purposes with altiverb.

Does anyone have an idea?

Fixing this will help me a lot because I also see that having them spread helps my cpu load.

Please some one knows about this or has any suggestion?

Sorry for my English.

System Spec: phenom 2 x4 3.0 ghz, 8 gigs ram.

What OS and bit-depth are you using (e.g., WIN7 x64)?

It sounds surprising that there's less CPU load with 4 instances of Kontakt instead of just one. What is your Disk Usage reading? Are all the cores being used or just one?

Have you tried freezing the synths?

Yea I know, it sounds strange that there’s better cpu performance with four instances of kontakt, but my guess is that one instance of kontakt doesn’t work very good when handling all those legato patches, (15 patches with a vibrato script in each one). Therese always 4 cores working and freezing for me would be a bad option because there will be a big loose of time because I’m always playing around with all the patches doing the music in that precise moment. I think that my HDD activity is good. I have 3 hitachi deskstar 7200 rpm in raid 0 configuration giving me approximately 250 mb per second of read and write. Sonar shows 0 hdd activity with this sampled libraries and the task manager says it goes from 0 to 20%.
Thanks for the reply’s by the way.

All that sounds correct. What exact version of Kontakt 4 do you have? IIRC, 4.1 and 4.11 had some issues with Sonar, but 4.13 is supposed to have fixed them.

Yep, that's what I was going to ask.  The latest version of Kontakt 4 - and of course any updates to LASS (which I also use lately) should be installed.

I might not be 100% correct, but I think 4.13 solved some multi-processor issues with Sonar.

Have you tried contacting the other vendors - NI and LASS people?

I use multiple instances of Kontakt 4 with LASS legato patches and don't have issues with crashing.  I'm also using Windows 7 x64 in Sonar 8.5.3.

It's possible you have a memory problem.  Check Event Viewer for any error messages in the Windows System logs.  Run a memory tester overnight such as Memtest.

I was getting strange errors when I first built my system and it turned out to be a bad memory stick.  Replaced it and haven't had any issues since then.

Well just to close this thread. I checked the memory and it seemed to work fine but recently I upgraded my cpu from a phenom 2 940 at 3ghz to a phenom 2 1090t at 3.6ghz and the problem was gone. For me it’s pretty strange because the old cpu used to work fine in every other aspect. Even when I used prime95  for some hours to test it.
