LOCATION OF SOFTSYNTHS

I noticed somewhere on this forum that if you have 2 hard drives, it is better to install all the softsynths on the secondary drive.  Has anyone done this and if so, does there appear to be an enhancement in performance?  Both my drives are 7200 rpm drives

Secondly, if it is better to install the softsynths on a secondary drive, How could I move cakewalks tts softsynth to my secondary drive?

Thanks much
Jan

depends on synth.. makes no odds with tts 1.. it loads up.. done

things that use samples.. different thing.. esp with big sample libs.. like strings etc.

you can use multiple vst paths anyway.. so it's not a biggy

Typically, you would install an instrument onto the system drive. For example, if it is a VSTi, it is usually installed in the Cakewalk VST folder.

But the other issue is where to store the samples used by the instrument. Like Fog said, if it's TTS-1, it uses a small soundset, and you should just leave it alone. But if the instrument uses a large samples library, you'll want to tell the instrument's setup program to install the samples on the other hard drive. That way, when your project is playing the instrument, it can stream the audio samples from your other drive and not create contention on your system drive.
