LOsing my VST plugs

THis is a crazy one.  I have a project with two separate VST instruments.  JAmstix and BFD.  When I save and close and walk away and then reopen both plugs are gone and those tracks have become muted midi tracks????  Any idea on the issue?  I have not had this with X2 before.
