LP MB & LP EQ crash Sonar
Hey all, Every time I try to insert "LP MB" or "LP EQ" I get the following error: "A fatal error has occurred in plugin 'LP MB'. Module: C:\Windows\system3aticfx64.dll Exception code: c0000005 As a result of this error SONAR is about to exit abnormally." This has been going on for a while. I contacted Cakewalk support on December 5th, and they are normally helpful, but not this time. They told me they are referring this to "a colleague," and now any time I remind them that the issue isn't resolved (bringing the same ticket number back to their attention), they say that I shouldn't do that because it sends the ticket back to them instead of their mysterious "colleague." Here's the last email I got from Daniel: "Hello Ben, Thing is like this, Everytime you reply to this message it is assigned back to me, so my colleague can't see your message and when i assign again he is treated as a new message." I feel like I sent my message into an alternate world where Cakewalk doesn't have such good tech support. I've been having this issue for literally 2 months now with no resolution. So now I'm trying this forum. Has anyone else had this problem? Perhaps in a related note, Sonar never closes correctly now. Any time I close it, it experiences a "fatal error." I have uninstalled Sonar entirely and reinstalled from the Command Center. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled the Engineering Suite, and now it seems like the LP MB and LP EQ are standalone, so I installed them that way too with no change in the behavior. Your help is appreciated.
Thanks, Ben

Can you give some more information about your system and Operating system? Have you installed all Windows updates and are you using the latest hardware drivers, especially for your audio interface and graphic cards ( Do this by visiting from manufacturers website, rather than letting Microsoft do it)
I must say I have never had this issue with any of the new Cakewalk Linear Phase Plugins.
Others may have further suggestions

Sure. I have a Creation Station from Sweetwater, which is designed for audio. I am running Windows 7. I tried to upgrade to Windows 10, and when I did, nothing worked anymore, so I immediately rolled it back. My audio interface is my Behringer X32 via USB cable. I have kept everything updated that I know of, including the audio cards. I haven't looked at the graphics card lately, but I will try that. I believe it should auto-update with my Windows updates, shouldn't it? Thanks, Ben

Theoretically , yes it should. However, when it comes to drivers, I prefer to go to the manufacturers web sites to make sure the right driver gets installed.
Sometimes Microsoft gets it wrong when it comes to drivers and installs a generic driver.

I went and tried for a while today to update my Intel graphics card. It isn't very specific about what it is... it's like Intel HD core i5 or something, but when I tried to download a driver, there were several possibilities, and none seemed right. I tried to get Windows to do it, but it said all the drivers are updated. I did download the driver that made the most sense, but it wouldn't install. I even downloaded the Intel piece of software that is supposed to search your computer and update any drivers, but it couldn't even find my driver. I don't really think the graphics card is the issue, but if it is, I'm kind of at a loss as to how to proceed next. Ben

Okay, so I went into Sonar and started to reset the VST's as you suggested, but then I got scared. Before doing that, I want to clarify something... even after I reset these, Sonar will still remember the settings I have for each session, right? In other words, I know this will reset the defaults that come up when I open, for example, the Cakewalk Compressor, but if I had set particular settings on that compressor during a particular session, Sonar will still remember that even if I reset these, right?
Thanks, Ben

A VST reset does not affect the plug-in or its settings in a project in any way. The reset clears and rebuilds the VST inventory in the registry.

FYI - I believe a reset will remove your choices of plugins that you've removed or renamed. 3 undefined references to Kontakt comes to mind.

How low are you running your latency? I found both plug-ins to be glitchy as hell on my system with 256 or less in the latency buffer. Increasing things for mixing helped a lot in my case.

You didn't answer my question about your latency buffer settings......what are they? I had a similar problem to what you're having and increasing the buffers fixed it.

I have my latency set at a normal, "safe" level according to my X-32 sound card. It's definitely not set at a low latency right now. Ben

I've tried every instance of it (there are 2), and both cause the same crash. I'm not positive if one was in the VST3 folder or not, but I'll check.

The error referencing aticfx64.dll in the OP is the graphics driver. Maybe Sweetwater can help you get the correct driver for your system. You may want to ask them about firmware updates too. Often times when SONAR crashes on exit it is plug-in related. This may require some testing on your part to determine which plug-in is failing to unload.

Hmm. Okay. I tried downloading the most recent Intel driver for my graphics card, and it said I had the most updated one, but let me focus in on this issue and see what happens. I find it difficult to pinpoint my exact graphics card, because the one listed doesn't seem all that specific. I will call Sweetwater if I can't figure it out myself. I doubt it's a 3rd party plug-in issue, because I've been using mostly Sonar stuff lately. I do use the UBK-1, but I haven't had any trouble with it before. Thanks, Ben

If Sonar is crashing when you add an instance of an LP plugin, it's unlikely to be caused by a 3rd party plugin. It maybe that the LP plugins are asking your graphics card to render it in a way your graphics card is not currently capable of so updating the drivers may well fix the issue. I guess it was a mistake when you said you think your graphics card is an Intel i5? That would be your CPU. Your graphics card is more likely to be an Nvida or ATI chip set. The best way to find out is to right click on My Computer, click properties then click on Device Manager. In Device Manager look for Display Adaptors and click on it to expand it. Your graphics card should be listed there.

Crash on exit still could be a plug-in issue. Any plug-in could be the culprit. There is a way to alter the behavior of the L-Phase plug-ins. While it is a solution for a different issue, it might prevent them from crashing in this case. From http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3555087Logan Thomas [Cakewalk] 1. Go to C:\Cakewalk Content\LP EQ\Settings 2. open LPEQ.cws in notepad 3. somewhere in that string you will see the words EnableOpenGL="1" 4. change that to EnableOpenGL="0" (make sure not to change any other things) 5. save the file and do the same in C:\Cakewalk Content\LP MB\Settings

As mentioned above, it is very important when updating graphics drivers to only use those provided by the manufacturer. If you are using an on board Intel graphics chip, say in a laptop, then the manufacturer may have made customizations to it and so the generic Intel driver will not work correctly.

If drivers are an issue, you might want to try the free version of Iobit's Driver Booster. You can choose to either let it do updates or do them yourself, but it would at least define most of the problematic drivers on your system.
ASUS ROG Maximus X Hero (Wi-Fi AC), i7-8700k, 16GB RAM, GTX-1070Ti, Win 10 Pro, Saffire PRO 24 DSP, A-300 PRO, plus numerous gadgets and gizmos that make or manipulate sound in some way.
