Laptop Live?

Please could you help?

I want to use a laptop with my band, to create the drums and use other virtual instruments live on stage. I'm hoping to use a UA1000 audio interface, a laptop, midi controller and ?

Is there any seperate amplifier or speakers you could recommend?
How does It connect it to the PA system (owned by the places we usually play)?
I really know nothing about this stuff! All this time I've just been a rhythm guitarist who miked his small amp up to the pub's PA. Maybe I need a book about this!
Thanks

You don't need any extra amps or speakers if the venue already has a P.A. All that you need is a pair of 1/4" balanced cables to feed the venue's mixer. It's probably a good idea to throw a pair of unbalanced 1/4" cables into your gig bag as well in case their mixer cannot accept a balanced signal.

The hitch is that in most venues all of the 1/4" snake channels are configured for stage monitor output. In this case, you can get a pair of XLR - 1/4" TRS cables to plug into two of the XLR channels on the snake. You will have to ask the sound tech to route the two channels to line-level inputs on the mixer.

So to cover all the bases, you need to pack three pairs of cables. 1/4" balanced, 1/4" unbalanced, and XLR - 1/4" TRS.

Thanks very much for the reply! I should be ok with what you have told me provided that the venues have a PA system!
