Laptops with firewire

Hello - jut wondering what are some laptops that have firewire ports?? Thanks

I would suggest a "gaming" or "multi-media" laptop. Generally they are built with more of, shall we say, the enthusiast in mind. The hardware is usually high end with proven components. Most should come with a Firewire port.
The gold standard in Firewire interfaces is Texas Instruments (the "TI chipset"). In my experience with various FW cards as add-ons to PCs or laptops (via PCI ports) the TI spec works without any gymnastics and more often is the only one that works. I would make sure that whatever machine you get has the Texas Instruments FW chipset.

Well the only reason I was asking was for being able to use a firewire interface for location work with a laptop - but perhaps not so easy. And then now the new thing is thuderbolt (which I heard can be done with a USB/Thunderbolt converter??

There's been a lot of issues with FW ports and audio and in general and the Windows consensus as my research shows is going back to Windows XP S3 with legacy MS FW drivers to get a solid system. That's been my experience as well. A lot of people on Win 7 need to run 32 bit and hopefully sort out IRQ sharing issues which can cause dropouts and latency issues. Some problems can be solved by tweaking the latency and system settings like running in High Performance all the time, removing video cards which share FW interrupts and using on-board video GPUs.  I'm still exploring potential stability issues on Windows 8.1 even though my system seems to be stable I don't want to be in for some nasty surprises in the midst of a session. I'm grateful for some users on the forum that have pointed me in the right direction regarding my specific setup (MOTU 828 Mk, II FW). Thankfully there are some useful real-world discussions focusing on that set-up here on the forum. As far as the Thunderbolt/USB situation is concerned I'm afraid I have no experience there and can't be of any help. Hopefully someone else can jump in or you might keep trying searching the net for other users and speaking to the audio interface manufacturer. Hope you get squared away so you can make your music out there.
