When I played this just now, I could feel the floor shake. The mix is what you would hope for from a hard rock song, loud and full featured. The performances are tight, and the tones are just right. Good job.

Thank you LYNN! To be honest, I got so tired of double checking my mixes in my truck (I drive non-stop so I know that system really well) that I decided to pull up as close to my studio as I could and I ran a long headphone extension cable out and plugged it into the aux jack on the trucks stereo and ran back and forth a few times to make the final tweaks on the mix. This method worked REALLY, REALLY well for me!

Thanks Blown, I appreciate it sir. Offtopic- Why do so many people listen and not bother to comment on peoples stuff? If you take the time to listen why not take 20 seconds and leave a statement, good, bad, or indifferent? Sometimes you see someones song with 40 views and 1 comment... what's up with that??

very cool, Chuck! you've always done really well with mixing this genre. this is no exception. nicely played guitars, bass, drums, great vox. good deal. as far as so many people looking but not commenting - that's just the way it is. look at any of the forum threads, typically there are about 10% posts compared to the number of views.

Chuck, You have put up a full blown rocker. I liked everything about this. As far as views vs posts, you have to factor in the guests vs members. Guests can listen but not post. You have to be a member to leave a post. This could explain some of what you refer to. The rest is, not everyone feels compelled to post on what they have listened to. I do not post on everything I listen to, most everything, but not everything.

If you take the time to listen why not take 20 seconds and leave a statement, good, bad, or indifferent? Sometimes you see someones song with 40 views and 1 comment... what's up with that?? I certainly don't want to hijack your thread, but it's your thread and you asked! So here is my situation and view on that...as you can see from my post count, I'm new around these parts, and still trying to get a feel for things here. I've only posted a couple of song comments, and they have been for pieces that I either had a very strong reaction to, or like your song, was well within my 'comfort genre' of music. I also know that there are pro's and semi-pro's here who are far more qualified to analyze a mix and/or song than I. However, and there is no getting around this, I understand that first impressions, 3rd party critiquing and pro/semi-pro analysis are all necessary to help perfect our crafts. I am in that exact situation right now...I crave input from my friends on my first recording project after over 25 years of not picking up an instrument, and my first use of Cakewalk since the DOS version that I used back in the 80's. I'm just trying to work up the nerve to post it up here! Anyway, I will make an effort to comment more on the postings, as I anticipate I will be expecting the same courtesy on my stuff at some point. I can't guarantee that I can provide any quality mixing/mastering advice, but I do have an opinion and would be willing to share it with the group. I've just been lurking for the most part to see if people are analyzing the song, technical/musicianship, or recording aspects. It appears that it is a little bit of everything, which is good!

Beagle- Thanks for the listen, glad you enjoyed it. This my current (working) band so yeah, I am pretty much recording the one style right now. Strat- awesome to hear that man. Thank you. It feel really good to get such positive feedback. I wasn't even talking about the lack of posts on my songs, there was a guy that had like 30 views and no comments.... I had to check it out cause I know that feels lousy to see when you want to hear what people think of all your hard work even if you are only doing it for your own enjoyment. Affirmation is nice to have ya know?

Chuck, The first thing I noticed was that you guys are tight instumentally. The song has a good structure/arrangement to it. I listened through my apple earbuds and so I can't comment on the bass here, although when I put the buds closer into my ears the bass was pretty good for what I listened with. I liked the way you came out suddenly from the intro. The guitar tones are sweet. I am always curious how some of you guys get those nice tones. A really great rock tune man...good job. I read another post you made about loudness. IMO this is plenty loud enough. I had my volume at about 3 or 4 and it was a comfortable listen without hearing damage lol. Maybe your guys are going deaf :)

Starise- Glad you liked it. Thanks. The guitar tones are fairly straight forward. I play mostly my old Ibanez guitars (panned to the left) I am playing through a line 6 Xt Live pedal into a peavy transtube head and a hartke 4x12 cab mic'd up with a 57'. My sound is taylored from with the amp/and line 6 pedal as close as I possible could to my old Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier. I made 2-3 passes with slightly different tones/mic positions from close up & off axis to about 12-15" out- dead center on the speaker cone. My other guitarist (panned right) has a bit brighter tone & is playing an American strat through a boss Me-25 pedal into a no-name solid state head pushing the same model of Hartke cab (for the money they are awesome!) Mic'd up similarly. Each track has a sonitus Eq, and comp on them (light), and then each of us has a bus with a 2nd Eq/comp (also going light on them) to gel the tracks together and shape final tones. Pm me if you want and can try to get you a screen shot of my Eq if it might help you sir. Danny helped me start to understand how to shape the guitar tones better and it really made a nice difference. Steve, very cool to hear you say that as the band is actully named "Wallow Sound". This was not my choice for a band name as I actually think it's fairly stupid but we argued and debated the name for months and eventually found the name wasn't horrible and nobody had a major objection to it, so that's where we settled. Non the less... It adds a little pressure to get the guitar tones right since the freakin bands name is a tribute to "Wall of Sound" ya know? Hehe Thanks again! Edit:typo fixes- I gotta get a new laptop (half the keys don't work unless I hit em real hard - Sorry!)

Great song and performance. The mix: - vocals are buried; that might be a style choice, but the bg vox don't really mesh with the lead, so I have trouble making them out
- guitars are huge but too huge in relation to the rest of the track, even during the lead they overpower
- drums are way puny for such a massive song. I struggle to hear them, but I can hear the hats fine, so there is something wrong thereThe kick is all top and very little bottom.

Liked the tune and generally like the genre: James yoyo nailed the sonic critiques in my opinion. You are almost there.. I think you need to examine the lower mids upper bass on the rhythm guitars a bit. They feel just a tad muddy at the lower registers. This will let your bass guitar take some responsibility for the bottom as it should.. and give your drums more room to let the kick punch better. I'd also try a gated verb on the snare...a tad more compression on the overall kit to give it more punch and let the cymbals crisp up a bit more. Either bringing up the vocals, or carving out some upper mids to give them some room could also help with the vocal definition. Remember...all this in very very small increments should really help.

Mark - Thanks man, yeah I know.. It's a thumper. James, So would putting a light comp on the drum bus help get the drums to sound bigger/fuller? Ohgrant.... I hear what you guys are saying. I am on it. Chas - Thank you! Thalweg- I will have a look at that. I was thinkng about it while listening to it again in the truck earlier.... guitars need a hair more mid-cut.
