Mudvayne in early February in a hockey arena and about 1000 people showed up. First show of their current tour for the new album. Unfortunately, they only played 2 songs from the new album and I was hoping for 4 or 5. They mostly played material that wasn't on the current album or the previous album which means I had never heard it before.

Seeing Disturbed/Killswitch Engage this weekend at the same place...

When will these sound guys stop cranking things up to stupid levels??

In my college days, I ran sound for a local amusement park. They had 3 stages, each with a particular genre of show. My show was the "Hollywood Revue" of classic soundtrack songs. I would try to keep the levels down to a reasonable level--particularly since mine was not the Pop show, and my audience was mainly middle-aged women. The producer of the show was constantly on me to "Turn it up! The finale needs to have more energy!" And whenever I did turn it up, one of the nice middle-aged women in the audience would come up to me after the show and say that it was too loud. So in this case, blame the producer.

But ultimately, it is the responsibility of the guy with his finger on the fader. Just like in mastering.

I get that. I just would think big name acts like the ones mentioned would have enough clout to demand better sound and get it. Maybe the monitors sound great and they can't really hear the FOH sound.

Most of them are using the ear monitors and I pretty much guarantee you they are not being blasted by the monitor mix engineers....So yeah, I agree, they probably have no clue what it sounds like out front.

But, I still can't understand why they would not be concerned about the quality of the house mix.

ORIGINAL: CLEAN
Ahhh, man Leon Russell, wow, my one of my favorite musicians. Was it in a smal venue? I'm sure it was. I'm sure he hasn't lost anything - probably better than ever.

Yeah, it was at a venue within the "Patriots Place" complex in Foxborough, MA. Seats a little over 1000 total.

If you can see the desk positioned stage left, LR's rig was set up right in front of that desk at a 45 deg angle, and my wife, parents, and I were sitting at the table on that corner of the stage...

We happened to get seated there because we showed up an hour early, and while there's a bit of flexibility in the seating, the staff tries to "pack you in" to keep the seating simple. At first I was worried about the sound, being so damn close to the stage, but it turned out that it actually sounded fantastic because we were listening to the band's own amps and monitors, and not the big boomy loudspeakers hanging over our heads at the front of the stage.

And yeah he's still got it.

Best $25/ticket I ever spent.

I've never seen him - I still pull out Carnival and play it about once a month - one of the best cd's (an 8 track when I first bought it) ever recorded.

That looks like a fantastic venue.
