Last day...

in my crummy, cramped, noisy, damp studio. It's gonna be a pain getting everything set back up but the new place is gonna be SWEET!! :-)

    Or a descriptive poem?

I'm gonna have a great view too. Right now I don't even have a window. It's amazing I haven't gone completely insane.

    or have I?

Maybe you can ask those voices in your head for an opinion on the subject?

On my 29th year, when my first wife and I broke up, I had just lost my job because of a back injury. I had no insurance, no welfare, no nothing - and more importantly, no family to turn to.

A couple of old friends who had moved to Quebec City heard word of my mishap and came pick me up, helped me pack my stuff (that is, 2 guitars, a PC, my cd's and a bag full of clothes) and offered me a room at their place.

The "room" was actually more like a walk in - 6.5 x 10 at most. No window. I remember waking up w/ water dripping on my face from the ceiling the first morning, looking around me - no furniture but the old mattress on the floor and a little low table to put my pc w/ a cushion to sit on.

Everything was just so ugly. And it was like I was finally hitting rock bottom. A mixture of pain and relief.

I lived in that room for 2 years. One of the friends lent me a bit of money, another one helped me find a job, and they made sure I had an actual meal every now and then.

And you know what? I have fond memories of that place. I rarely got out of there except to go to work. Of course, I eventually re-arranged it and got furniture. That's where I totally re-invented myself. Wasn't easy, but I'm proud I made it through - and eternally grateful to those friends.

Yeah, this was a crappy situation but it could have been FAR worse. I also managed to get a crapload done despite all the craziness. I outlined and perfected my theory, built my DAW and learned how to use Sonar. Never would have been able to do that the way I used to live. It is however time to move forward. Cheers.

Yep.  The moment may suck, but I feel it can definitely be rewarding and a really good learning experience.  I just finished going through a similar situation (albeit caused by the IRS and B of A stealing all of the money I spent 30 years earning) and am starting to move on up again.  The difference is that I was lent a much bigger 9' x 10' room to live in - lol!

Ooof... I'm running out of steam and I still have a bunch of piddly crap to get sorted out and packed. I really dislike moving.

I don't think anyone likes moving. It's supposed to be one of life's most stressful experiences. And to tell you the truth the stress for me continues even when I'm all moved in and unpacked. I usually have a couple of weeks of "what have I done, I think I prefer my old place!" before I settle in and start appreciating my new surroundings.

@sharke... Well this new place is going to be a huge step up for me. The only regretfulness might come from being completely broke. The rent is a lot but I know how to live cheap and I'll just be burying my head into making music so it should be alright. Not like I can go out partying these days anyway and I have all the crucial equipment I need to get things done. Cheers.
