Latency Between MIDI USB interface and Sonar VST

I have hooked up a USB MIDI interface (which connects my keyboard to my computer) to my computer. I have noticed that between any instruments (even midi) there is a delay from me playing a note on the keyboard and me hearing it from sonar. The delay is somewhat better on the MIDI tracks but it is pretty bad on any VSTs (Drummer, Strings, EP Piano, ect.). I was wondering if there is a way to fix this. I have talked to some other musicians and they say there is a way to fix it but they do not use Sonar. They use other programs like FL studio. Any help on this topic would be appreciated. Thank You.

It's neither SONAR, your MIDI controller or the soft synth; it's your sound card. What is your sound card?
You may be able to lessen the delay (called 'latency', search for it in the Help file) by going to Options>Audio and moving the Latency slider to the Fast side. Going too far can cause clicks, pops and other noises or complete audio dropout.
The ultimate solution is to get an audio interface designed for recording.

I have integrated sound on my system. What would you recommend in getting as a sound card for Sonar?

greg's completely correct - the soundcard and its drivers are responsible for 90% of the latency.  getting a better soundcard will reduce your latency.  check my website for soundcard recommendations.
