Latency D'OH! Moment

Just to let you point and giggle, and maybe to save some newbie a little grief, here's what yours-duh-truly did today:

La-la-la all happy, opened Sonar X3d and instantiated Kontakt 5 for the purpose of auditioning three new sample libraries I bought yesterday (Indie Pop, Acoustic Pop and Acoustic Indie Pop I think are their titles, for those who like details in their stories).

Load up a sample and press down c1 on my keyboard. Uh-oh. Big lag. Big BIG latency, maybe half a second, no matter which sample is called up or which key is depressed (by now, I am the one who is depressed).

Go through the regular procedures, turn off FX, check buffers, look for solutions online and methodically try each one, pull out hair, etc.

Finally, I realize that when I set up my new make-my-life-sooooooo-much-easier-by-streamlining-my-workflow template, and I included a custom Pro Channel for each track, I inadvertently and inexplicably left 4 modules PER TRACK on. And naturally, they were the energy-suckingest look-aheadingest modules in existence.

D'OH!

You're welcome, or alternatively, I'm sorry.

LOL They were staring at me in disbelief, sighing in exasperation and shaking their heads, but they wouldn't stoop to telling me the answer, robert_e_bone!

I caught my cat licking her fur -- well, never mind.  She denied it anyway.

It's all about MEow, with cats.

Once in high school, I was running late to work after school, but locked my keys in the car.  I ran in and grabbed a wire coat hanger, then spent about 15 minutes working to Jimmy open the door., with a bunch of my friends standing around and laughing at me.

It was only after finally getting the door opened that I looked over to see the passenger window had been WIDE open the whole time.

You would THINK one of my friends would have said something - noooo.  They all might as well have been cats.

    :)

That made me laugh, Bob Bone :) I guess it's true that cats are similar to teenagers:

    1. Neither teenagers nor cats turn their heads when you call them by name.

    2. No matter what you do for them, it is not enough. Indeed, all humane efforts are barely adequate to compensate for the privilege of waiting on them hand and foot.

    3. You rarely see a cat walking outside of the house with an adult human being, and it can be safely said that no teenager in his or her right mind wants to be seen in public with his or her parents.

    4. Even if you tell jokes as well as Jay Leno, neither your cat nor your teen will ever crack a smile.

    5. No cat or teenager shares you taste in music.

    6. Cats and teenagers can lie on the living-room sofa for hours on end without moving, barely breathing.

    7. Cats have nine lives. Teenagers carry on as if they did.

    8. Cats and teenagers yawn in exactly the same manner, communicating that ultimate human ecstasy -- a sense of complete and utter boredom.

    9. Cats and teenagers do not improve anyone's furniture.

10.Cats that are free to roam outside sometimes have been known to return in the middle of the night to deposit a dead animal in your bedroom. Teenagers are not above that sort of behavior.

Ah PC dohs. Mine is sticking the Concrete Limiter on my master buss and no matter what I did it was not stopping the clipping. Of course it had to be a bug. Then I put the PC after the FX bin.
