Latency
I am using X1 and windows 7 32 bit with a Edirol UA 101. I am fine with recording guitars and vocals etc. but when it comes to do keyboard parts using softsyths like in Dimension or anything I get very bad latency and am unable to record. I end up using audio from my Triton or work out simple keyboARD LINES. How can i sort out the delay from when i play and hear.... I have tried swopping from ASIO to WDN and nothing seems to work. I guess i am missing the point some where.

you can try changing your buffers in asio mode or the slider in WDM mode which will lower latency. You just have to hope you dont start getting crackles and/or dropouts. You have to adjust things for lower latency. The key is getting it as low as possible without the crackles or dropouts. Im not sure how well that unit performs at low latency settings. Lance

What is being reported from the ASIO panel for latency. I have a UA 101 (got a bad input though) and it had very low latency. How are you monitoring? Brian

when you want to record a soft synth, turn off the plugins in your busses and sends. if you have plugins running in your master buss (or any buss) it can introduce latency regardless of your buffer settings. some plugins, like the linear phase multiband create unworkable latency when they run.

turn off the plugins in your busses and sends I did not know that. I don't know how to "mark this post as helpful" or I would... one more thing, exactly how do you turn them off? Just mute the track or what... sorry to be so ignorant but I am mostly audio and I don't know. Thanks... if it is an involved process I will try using the manual, just let me know. Thanks, J

Wildman OK! Problem much better...i switched off all the plug ins and got it nearly perfect it terms of latency. Thanks everyone. Fine. But what was the latency set to? The default ASIO latency in SONAR used to be 50 ms, which is much, and needs to be manually lowered (I don't know what it is in X1). Sometimes you want to hear the FX when recording, and your PC should easily run quite a few VSTs. So the first thing to do, IMO, would be to set the latency lower, and bypassing FX would just complement that if it's not enough.

So i am now on ASIO drivers. I never know which to use...if those or WDM? But under Driver Settings it says under ASIO Panel Input 13.2 msec 581 samples Output 19.8msec 873 samples Roundtrip: 33 msec 1454 samples Under synch and Caching Use ASIO Reported Latency is ticked and says 581 I haven't a clue what all that means but works now.
