Latency question
I have a question about latency when using softsynths in MC3. I get no noticeable latency when I play my USB keyboard with the soundcards synth sounds, but about a second of latency when I have Edirol or other softsynths chosen as my output. My workaround is to record midi with the built in synth and then plug in the softsynths during playback. I'd like to play the softsynths live, and I suppose that means upgrading my soundcard, but maybe I'm missing something else I could do. SO if anybody has any suggestions, a good low price sound card that's good for my system. I'm using an old Voyetra Turtle Beach Santa Cruz sound card. An old midiman oxygen8 plugged into a USB2 port. Right doing this from memory. Go Tools > Audio... In the windows that opens up look on the first tab. Look at the bottom of the tab and there is a section on latency try moving the slider to give a smaller latency. I use ASIO drivers so the solution may not work for you. Peter MC2 Nut Head.

Close Peter, Options>Audio. However, the softsynths should give you less latency, not more. I think the problem may lie here: Available Physical Memory 32.14 MB I think the synth is using paged RAM, which means there is a lot of extra overhead in producing sound. I know this (512Mb) is listed as recommended RAM, but 1Gb will make your computer handle this so much better.

grinding out audio thru softsynths is not for the faint of heart. Ram up young man and go forth and make Musack!

I am doing fine on 512Mb of ram you may want to tune you rcomputer up....at start up I have 8 processes running....if you have more than 20 then all you need to do is reduce the amount of RAM and CPU power background tasks are taking up

Thanks. I think you may be right. I closed every application I could and it seemed the latency decreased. Not so much that I was able to "play" the softsynths, but noticeable. So I'll be jacking up the RAM on my system soon and I'll check back.
