Re: Latency with DXi soft synths on Sonar X3

Noel Borthwick [Cakewalk] I've fixed this for the next SONAR monthly update. Thanks for the reports. This actually broke in 2012 when I did some work on making accurate realtime MIDI timestamping so its not a new issue. We have to do some magic to workaround timestamping bugs in DXi's by pseudo sequencing live input which doesn't work when there is a tempo map present. I circumvent that now when a tempo map is detected.
ive got to give some credit where credit is due, you have done an mazing job on some of the long standing bugs, issues. I cant even begin to imagine how complicated it is to do this...as you fix one thing and something else is altered ever so slightly. just giving props Noel (but cant give you all the credit ;-) all you guys in development have done a great job. and its appreciated.

Noel, thanks, that's excellent news! I think I know the answer but I have to ask ... will the fix be backported to SONAR X3, or is it only going to be for the current release?

As much as we would like to support customers on older platforms it simply isn't feasible from a resources standpoint. Cakewalk is a small company and we work hard to keep SONAR moving forward and providing value. Please consider upgrading to the current platform. As many will attest, its a superior version and model that allows for continuous updates like this one.

No worries, Noel, I expected that to be the case, and I was on the edge of upgrading anyway - this just gives me a little more impetus to do it (that and another problem I just stumbled on that might require a full re-install anyway!) Off to look at the feature comparison again and backup all my project files & plug-in presets, just in case. Edit: Saved everything important, scrubbed SONAR X3 from the drive (including apparent remnants of a demo version), and downloading the latest SONAR Platinum now.

Glad its fixed for you. If you are performing, remember to run at lower latencies to minimize MIDI jitter with DXi's when you have tempo changes. I had to fallback to the less accurate MIDI rendering for DXi's with tempo changes to avoid this issue.
