Latest on Tool Bar?
Hi all. I'm new to X1 and I'm having trouble deciding on how to lay out the new Tool Bar. I did a search and read everything I could and the jest was to 'live with it' or learn to use shortcuts. Now that X1 has been out a while, what's the consensus on laying out the Tool Bar? In my S8 layout I had access to most everything that's in the new Tool Bar but obviously, now I can't see it all. Is there a 'screen resolution' setting that would fix this? Thanks. Paul

garrigus You might be able to do it with multiple monitors, but even on a single monitor at 1920 x 1080, you still can't see the entire Control Bar. So you basically need to decide which modules you use the most. Scott Thanks Scott. I just posted this over at your forum as well. Yeah, I have two monitors. It appears that I either stretch the main window across both monitors or I have to float the Tool Bar. I don't like either option. I guess I'll have to learn to work around it. Drat! I'm going to go back and look at as many videos as I can to try and ascertain what other folks are doing. Paul

At 1920 x 1080 and higher you can get all but 3 of the modules. It's a built in limitation some would like to see changed. There's about 3 I never use so I can live with. But an option to see ALL would be nice for those who do use them all... and if they ever add more modules. Steve

So is there no monitor on the market that can fit it all?

Cakewalk designed the Control Bar to show all but 3 modules at once. If your screen resolution was 1000000000000100 wide you would still not be able to show them all. .

moffdnb Anyone know what monitor rez would give me the most view of the control bar? 2560 X 1440. I am guessing FBB will be on here soon suggesting screensets as a solution???? I am not actually sure if it is possible, I have not really used X1 and I am still finding my way around X2 but I suspect you could have different screen sets with different tool bar configurations for different tasks. Incidentally as one who prefers to use a mouse I am finding X2 easier than X1, I am not sure why.

I have a dual monitor system, (pair of 22" widescreens). As mentioned above, I was able to get all but three modules by using 1920 X 1080 res. I guess I'll have to learn to use it that way. I'm pretty sure I read where screen sets will not save a modified control Bar. Someone care to verify this? Thanks. Paul

That's right. Sort of. Control Bar configurations are set totally independently of Screensets

No, the Control Bar is global. It's not affected by Screensets, although that would be a nice option. It would also be nice to create multiple toolbars again (like in the past). Break apart the Control Bar and make our own. At the very least, be able to detach and float each of the modules. Hopefully, we'll get more customization in a future version. Scott -- Scott R. As Colin has posted, Control Bar is one of the few things independant of screensets, something I'd personally like to see changed but that's me. I use multiple monitors and two side by side at 1920 x 1080 shows them all with room to spare but I appreciate not everyone likes to run monitors like that. Control Bar customisation is one thing I'd like to see, I think it was John T who suggested in another thread that being able to collapse them, similar to how we can the PC modules would be good, and I think that's a great idea. As long as we stay away from those titchy earlier version icons, I'll be happy. YMMV of course.

Agreed. Hard to think that was thought out design. Lets make sure 3 modules will never be seen. ??? Worries me. And lets take out colours (and leave the broken options there... and remove indents for folders... and hide "auto cross fade" indicator... Versions going by and not much being addressed. Maybe I'm loosing touch or the new direction has plans for peeps other then me. ;< Hanging in there... (but getting all "hoped out" as each new version appears)

I know I've complained about this since day 1 of x1's release. They had such a versatile, customizable toolbar system. It's been very hard for me to feel very pleased about it. But honestly? I've overcome most of the need with a little convenience addition from duck bar and learning/using shortcuts more... I also find I can see the tools most important to me... Keni

this appears to be a dead horse,... but,.... The replacement of 1 click buttons with the command/ribbon groups was just plain STUPID. The removal of complete customization in favor of a semi-useful command/ribbon non-changeble pile of goups was just plain STUPID. This is just one of the results of the mental virus infection known as "De-cluttering" that swept through, and seems to still reside on, the CW premises. One man's "clutter" is another man's perfectly memorized properly located arrangment of tools and supplies. But, don't get me started. 2560 X 1440. Ebay for $230 US.

It's about having the new Control Bar improved as to get it CUSTOMIZABLE... and usable for ALL specific tasks and needs... THAT is STILL urgent serious fixing/improvements needed.... regards to all mates.

Tho I've calmed down about it, I too was very dismayed at the choice to replace efficiency with glitter... I was using SonarPlus in X1 and now Duckbar in X2 to give back many of the buttons and a few other "services" and I'm becoming ok with it... It's a lot sloppier for me to work and a bit more cluttered workflow, but I'm still managing... I don't remember the last time I used the transport buttons in the toolbar yet I must waste a very large space to have the other fields visible... and those I do need! <sigh>... A wonderful update would be the choice to use either the toolbar as is, or toggle the space to revert to the toolbar button system of old. that would be a step forward for me... But more important are the serious issues regarding Track Lanes (another thread)... that's unbearable right now... Keni

I can't believe nobody smacked me!!! You CAN get all Modules displayed if you stretch Sonar across 2 monitors with combined resolution past 1920. Works either docked or floating. Should work with 1 monitor bigger than 1920 wide as well. You can also get 36 1/2 wide console strips and 70(?) narrow strips with 2 1920s or 1 3840.
