Layering Instead Of Comping

Hi!! How Do I Disable Comping Altogether. I Find Layers To Be A Much Easier Way To Handle Tracks.

Not sure I'm following. Comping is the process and while slightly different in the way it is performed now has been there forever. Layers were the method of holding various takes, now replaced by lanes.

If the question is can you return to layers instead of lanes the answer is no, although the differences aren't that great either.

What is it you are finding hard to do? There may be a different method that fits your needs.

Maybe this is what you're looking for:

With the project open, type P to open Preferences. Under Project select Record. For Recording Mode, select Sound on Sound instead of Comping, which I believe is the default setting.

Lanes will then behave more like layers.

If you prefer layers over takes you may find the tip from Week 44 of Friday's Tip of the Week helpful, as well as this article from Sound on Sound magazine.

Also makes a difference if you're recording audio or midi. For midi, comping mode isn't very useful.

    Sonar Platinum please help.

Opening this up because I have this question and no answer was given to the OP: I want track layers to perform like they did in X2, without comping options, tools, anything comping-related.

Mine is a workflow-thing. I've used Sonar for a long time, for thousands of hours. Loved track layers as they were, comping just doesn't suit my workflow...

All music was recorded and all in Sonar.
