Leap Motion Controller

Leap Motion Controller

Possibly a more practical controller, moving about without having to touch-the-screen. It won't completely replace the mouse and keyboard however, the Leap Motion Controller is very affordable, can be used for audio and video production. Can easily connect to any PC.  For the price $79 and for what it can do, I think it's pretty darn cool!

An excerpt from their site in regards to using it for music applications:

Pick. Pluck. Strum. Drum. Your hands are any instrument you can imagine with the Leap Motion Controller. It converts all your natural movements into sound. It’s a precise, responsive, and natural way to make music in a wide-open music studio. You can even grab drumsticks or guitar picks and tear it up.

Oh man...  Before I went to that link I was thinking it was a good thing I don't have any money for toys 'cause I LOVE toys like this!

Then I see it's not just for music creation...  Since I use PhotoShop a lot and accurately "painting" with a thumb-trackball is always a joy, that picture of using an actual pencil is killing me!

Of course, you might have to be careful.  If you get pissed off at your PC and give it the finger, it might interpret that as "Format all hard-drives - YES!" LOL.

Looks pretty cool.  No touchscreen need apply.  I wonder exactly how accurate it is.

there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head.
24 And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the Lord. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.

Not sure but I think it can be used with just about any software because it's basically a 'universal controller' that can be used on any computer, probably best described as "Universal Air-Gestures Controller".

The actual controller device is really small (compact) and easily connects (USB) to any computer.   It would probably need to sit in the line of view (unobstructed) somewhere central....

... I guess hands on experience will determine its range and accuracy. Or maybe I might be able to find a PDF manual to find out more details about this.
A Keyboard and Mouse would most likely still be required for finer edits but I'm sure they will improve on this type of 'Air-Gestures' controller technology.

I guess this technology was inspired by that Wii game console. And I remember seeing similar technology demonstrated with a TV-Internet combo (not sure what TV brand/model)!

I hear it's already banned in Italy after a test group there started talking excitedly about it and managed to cripple the nations military networks, send Vogon poetry to the French Prime Minister, put all the stop lights around Rome into random sequences and vote in an Argentine gardner as Pope.  All before actually trying to use the device!

Amazing what a quick 'wave goodbye' gesture can do.
