Leave Our Country Alone
I apologize for posting so many songs here recently.... I'll hold off a while till the next one.... BUT, in the mean time here's a new one.... wrote and recorded it this week. It is a political protest song.....just a wee tad leaning to the right ... if I do say so myself...... something was just screaming out...this needs to be written.... so I did. The lyrics are on the soundclick site.... http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=443134&songID=11879522 hope you enjoy it.... again....since it is political in nature... enjoy it or not, but don;t cross the TOS in your reply. Write a song if you disagree with this song's position...... my co-writer and I are at opposite ends of the political spectrum and she did write a song for the opposing viewpoint..... that's partially why this needed writing.

Warning: this is going to sound really harsh. Nothing to say about the politics Herb, but as a song, it's so derivative as to be almost un-noticeable. Melody, chords, harmony..all been done a couple of hundred times. If you want to make a point you need to try harder than this. Put BIAB away and write something new. Yeah, I know there's nothing new under the sun, but still.. no need to be quite so cliched.

I'm pumping out oil on this one Herb , dang there goes the rubber on my tires and I fogot about the pothole I just hit along the way ! LOL Sounds great Herb but I have to agree its sounds like a country song me and the other country band members played way back then when I played in a country band but I'll say this it sure sounds great and top notch vocals too . Nice one -James

James1213.... I hear ya. There is nothing new under the sun, only recycled everything.... well at least the lyrics are somewhat new.... or at least from me..... James aka Night Fox..... yeah.... it sounds like a country song.... So here's the scoop on the song. I started writing it earlier in the week, recorded the tracks and mixed them a bit... then I tweezed the vocals this morning..... (Saturday) and posted it. BB was used for composition and the tracks..... I wanted to get it done......It was written to be performed at our local TeaParty rally in a few weeks so the sooner I got it done the more relaxed I could be in the next few weeks. Nothing like staring at a blank screen 2 days before it's due to raise some anxiety. The vocals ...... hummmm....... there are 5 vocal tracks.... One is a main lead and then there are 2 sub leads.... recorded individually and enveloped much lower in the mix and panned about 20% R/L... then there are 2 harmonies also lower and R/L by 60% or so. The only vocal that was "fixed" for pitch was the one main lead.... all the other tracks are totally untouched by melodyne. Oh well..... hope you enjoy it......

Regardless of whether I agree with you or not, you are quite the wordsmith, and you make your point clearly. Also, I'm not bothered whether this is derivative, since MUCH music in all genres are somewhat derivative, plus you know your audience. The production is quite good, and that's all I'm judging on. Maybe somebody will respond to your challenge, and if so, this is the kind of debate that I can live with.

Hi Herb, Nice production....the drums are a bit sizzly for my taste...the hats in particular kind of stick out at about 5k, but I think the whole kit could probably stand to have some low-mids put back in. I liked the fiddle...is that a live player that you tracked? Dean

I really enjoyed it Herb - I have said before that I really like your voice - it's so full of character. I'm not going to comment on the politics but the lyrics are extremely well written

I thought this was excellent... Mix was very good... and after living here in the USA for the last few years, I have no problem with the message... I do see Jamesg's point about cliches, but after reading your response, I get it... Well done Herb...

Daryl.... Thanks... I've had people describe my singing using all sorts of adjectives.... thanks...Writing those lyrics..... man, that was a zen thing of beauty. Wookie.... thanks.... glad you listened. Frank... in most of my writing.... I really do consciously try to avoid the clichés since they are not what modern music wants to hear..... but in the case of this song.... it was appropriate and almost imperative to use them. Trying to bring some levity to the topic. glad you enjoyed it.

I love the title. I was envisioning something a little less specific when I saw the title. Anyway, I guess it gets your message across. (quite directly) I don't have a problem with the clicheness of it. After all it's country. 3 chords and a story. I just think the concept (title) is better than the song. (which made me itchy).
