Lend me your ears

I recently had ear surgery and would like ask for some help re-tuning my ears. All opinions are welcome, good or bad.

A while back I did this cover and started to add the vocals but the project became corrupt. Weeks later after installing X1c, it became uncorrupted. I finished editing the vocals and started from the ground up mixing wise.

The guitars are direct through an emulated out on a Blackstar HT-5.
Bass is direct using a bass mod from Pod farm.
The drums are Addictive drums
The piano is True  Piano
I'm not sure what the vocalist used. He just sent me 24/48 files of numerous takes but they were dry so that was cool as well as his great vocals.

Anyway again, any help would be most appreciated.

Kings and Queens - Aerosmith cover

In the future I'll put in direct links. It appears you can't add them after the fact.

Your ears seem to be in pretty good shape - IMHO.

    Well done - loved this.

I appreciate the response. I keep second guessing myself which gets annoying.

    Thanks for listening.

Maybe if I have ear surgery I could do something this good. :) This is just great! I'm not sure about vocals--volume or something. I noticed it when the harmony came in...it just seemed so much fuller then, which was nice. But overall, great track. He's got a GREAT voice and it sounds like you know what you're doing!! You might get more comments if you'd put this on soundcloud or soundclick, or dropbox...somewhere so people don't have to download it.

    Thanks for commenting Janet.

I keep looking for a way to put a link in and it just plays rather than clicking multiple times and can't seem to get there.

I've been using googlepages. I have a Dropbox account and I notice I can make it one click play with them. Thanks for the heads up there. :-)

Wow...pretty kick ass man.  The vocals reminded me of Ian Gillan. I listen to tons of Rock/Metal bands and Ian is still one of my all time favorites.  I thought the cymbals were a little over powering at the beginning of the song, but other than that, everything sounded great.

Yea, and like Janet said, my net stinks right now so I usually don't listen to something if I have to DL it, glad I did this time though.  You should use Reverbnation.  It by far has the most options and customizing and stuff.

Love to hear some original stuff from you guyz!

Thanks Metaltek.  I appreciate the comments. I'll keep the cymbals in mind for my next project. They seem to be a tricky thing for me. Either not loud enough or to loud and I can't seem to find that, right on the money spot. Grrrr.

Deep purple is probably my all time favorite band. Great musicians all  around.

    Possibly:

    Vox up 1 dB

-- Add some delay to the vox (your fav)

Performance is phenomenal (to my ears) ... and I think I like yours better than original.  Your vox range is to die for -- haha!  I rehearse daily with my kids to try to get 3 octaves.  I think you've got 4.

No neg crits really.  (I wouldn't get too hung up on sounding exactly like them ... cause you sound quite awesome and I never bought an album from these champs!!! --lol)

This is so sweet and wonderful to my ears.  That falsetto sits quite well ... especially in the outro!  Also, fun-vibe is strong.  So, I believe you outdid the lead singer!

Wow...those high vocal notes were killer. Amazing job. Interesting song all the way and well arranged/mixed. I love that bass.

Thanks for listening and the good comments. I'll pass your nice comments along to the singer. I'm sure he'll love to hear it.

@Phillip. I thought that myself but I think the level is ok. It may be the guitars need to go a little wider in the field. That may make the difference your hearing.

@No How. Thanks for the comment on the bass! I am a bass player originally.

Very well done. Everything is in place and q'd well. The only thing is the cymbals are too forward in  the intro - keep em this loud, but push them back in the soundstage w/ a touch of verb. Piano is quite dry compared to the guitar and drums in the middle. The clean picked part in the verses seemed to get in the way of the voc more than I wanted. These are all small 'I'm digging deep to try to help, and these are the only things I could find' responses. Glad to hear your surgery had no ill effect by this mix. Rock on!

Thanks Jshep! It would seem that I'm healing up just fine. Thanks everyone for helping me out and giving me my confidence to keep going. I was really worried I would have a hard time mixing after the surgery. :-)
