Hi, MG, You've got what sounds like a very interesting and cool fusion of Electronica and Reggae here! Nice vocals and harmonies, the clean guitar sounds good and I really like the tasty little guitar fills throughout. Very original sounding and it sounds like it was a lot of fun to put together. Great stuff! Have a good one! Bob

Really refreshing and well done !! Just a thought - if you go for any minor re-editing, try effects equalizer for the vocal track. Cheers, Kane

MGMitchell How to pump this up?
I dunno man... For this kind of tune, I think it's fine as it is. I mean, where do you fancy taking it? You could make it some kind of fusion piece perhaps? Reggae Metal? Dunno......

Hi MG I like it - not sure what you could change other than maybe a breakdown to just a couple of instruments and voice to give it more light and shade?

Darly I think you may have it as far as interest and arrangement goes. I struggle with cutting out "perfectly good" clips even tho I know less is more. Thanks for the comments Synkro. And thanks Audio. Not sure what EQ settings you are suggesting? Are you saying to make the vox more unique? Or to sit better in the mix?

Hello MG, I was referring to the Audio FX - FX equalizer in Console View. I sometimes tweak it a bit for the vocals to blend further with the rest of the mix or as you said to sit better in the mix. This is just a thought. Cheers, Kane

It's a cool song! nice and laid back. Well, for me, the thing that is holding you back here (a little) is the tone on the bass. You might take off the chorus, and even what sounds like a fretless emulation? I think a conventional p-bass type deal might authentically drive the thing more. I like the theme to "Northern Exposure" and it has this same kind of loopy reggae feel, but reggae and 90's fretless bass is a pretty dated sound these days. And that's coming from a geezer. But, what the hey, bass tone is part of your vision here and we all make those choices, so pretty much, nevermind! The most important thing is the vocal, and you have a good one here. cheers, -Tom

Works here note sure, other than Daryl's suggestion, of what to pump this ups with. Perhaps give the bass a bigger bottom. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Kane. Do you feel that EQ is better than the Prochannel? I've never used it. Thanks Tom, Good points, I'll give the bass some thought. Cutting it in the chorus might add good contrast. Thanks Wookiee, more bottom noted too.

Not so much more bottom, but rather a different low-end distribution. You've got a big peak going on with the bass around 200 Hz that's making the low end sound muddy. Use an EQ with a good spectrum display or use SPAN in conjunction with any EQ and you'll likely see the problem. Take a look at the overall slope of the recording. If you're using SPAN you can determine the mix's slope by clicking the Edit button and turning the Slope knob until the display is more-or-less horizontal. The number below the Slope knob will be your overall slope. For reggae you probably want something between 3 and 4; my ears are saying this mix is more like 5 or 6. It could also benefit, I suspect, from a little more upper-midrange content in the 2-3K range. If you've got any plugins with a harmonic exciter such as Ozone or Alloy, you could probably beef that range up using an exciter band rather than EQ boosts. If you want a musical suggestion, IMO no reggae piece is complete without a bubbly Hammond. A tambourine would also be beneficial. Just my own uneducated expectation, based on listening to Marley for so many years.
All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to. My Stuff

Hi. I thought is was groovy and laid back. This kind of song does not (in my mind) need to be "pumped up". All the best.

really good work nice laid back groove I don't like all of the vocal processing you've done, I'd take a lot of that off and take it easy on the verb good stuff!

GREAT tune, GREAT vocals, Perfectly mixed! Definitely sounds like something I might hear Eric Clapton covering someday. I personally don't feel like the vocals are over-processed. You have a great voice and this song displays it well. All that said, it feels like the song runs completely out of steam in the chorus. There's a "something" that should be in there, but what? Maybe a nice little piano or electric guitar counterpoint in the background? Something ...

+1 to the above - nice song! Nothing to add to the mix comments at this point. Arrangement-wise, other than some organ as bit suggested perhaps more of a "group" vocal in the chorus? Picture 3-4 singers, stage right...
