Let me mangle your song
I am looking for an up-tempo bass/drums/guitar hard rock or metal instrumental that I can layer strings over for an article I'm writing. I'll need your permission to publish the song online, although it'll only be a 15-second snippit. Sorry, I don't get paid for this so neither will you. But you will be credited. Please post links to any material that you think might work for this experiment. It doesn't have to be your own song, as long as we know who to contact. No covers, just original music please. Thanks in advance for your contributions.

I'm not really sure that my stuff is the kind of stuff you want but you're welcome to screw around with any of my music. Have a listen on my SC page and let me know if you want to use one. No problem if not either.

Thanks for the offer, Daryl. And everybody else who PM'd me offering up their babies for public sacrifice. The instinct to freely share one's hard work is inspiring. I may have to go out and volunteer at a soup kitchen or something now. But you're right: it's not what I'm looking for. I'm imagining something fast and aggressive, but simple with some holes that I can stick some Eleanor Rigby-type fast cellos into.

Rimshot: yeah, that's the kind of energy I'm looking for, but I'm specifically after something really up-tempo. Like 160-200 bpm. I should have mentioned that at the top, heh. The reason is I want to show off this string library in an unusual application. All the vendor's examples are sweet classical stuff - and absolutely gorgeous, too. But it occurred to me while I was playing with the library that it could do heavy stuff, and it would be fun to include an example in the article. Anybody familiar with Nightwish? I'll bet some of you Scandinavian guys know them. That's kind of what I'm hearing in my head. I've always wanted to do something along those lines but never actually got 'round to it.

I'd give you all my songs but I have never yet strayed above 125 bpm so you'd double them and I'd sound like a chipmunk. Which might be an improvement! Ha, beat you all to it!!! good luck, though, sounds like an interesting project! -Tom

I only have a couple fully finished metal tunes so far and although they are fast (or have ultra fast parts in them) they aren't exactly in the Nightwish style (more weirdo thrash stuff). However I just sent a message to someone who writes exactly the style you are looking for. If he passes or doesn't have anything currently ready I'll post the tunes I've got. The mixes aren't great though so you may need to do a bit of polishing on them. Cheers. Edit: Yup. He's interested. I asked him to pop in here or send you a message. The guy writes really good stuff that should work perfectly for this.

Great, Beep! But if the guy does exactly that type of music then he's probably already loaded it up with strings, no? Not that that would necessarily be a deal-killer. I just gotta say I'm really impressed by how willing everybody is to share. I've received a dozen PMs in addition to the postings in this thread. Without a doubt, it's here in the Songs forum that the coolest people hang out.

There he is (Jarsve). You guys can figure out what's what. I think it will be a good fit. And yes this is indeed an awesome place filled with awesome people. However don't discount the "bit" factor. I know if I had the right type of material I'd be ecstatic to have you "mangle" it. ;-) Cheers.

Jarsve, that's just what I'm looking for! I will be sending you a PM. EDIT: PM sent. I included my email address. If you send me an email and I don't reply, it's probably because it got eaten by my aggressive spam filters. If that happens, let me know. Here, not by email.

Love the drums in that piece, John. Actually, all of it's very nicely done; the sax is outstanding and the organ so tastefully understated. Classy piano part that dovetails nicely against the acoustic guitar. Nice, nice, nice.
