"Let the Hippies Dance" - another big time Cakewalk collab!

A few weeks ago driving into work, I had a song idea for an upbeat tune that I thought would make a good song for a jam session. I wrote some lyrics and laid down the backing tracks and invited some guys from here at the Cakewalk forum to join in and they helped me take my scrappy little song idea to a whole new level.

This is featuring Warren "evandianpug" (vocals/co-lyrics), Mark "CLEAN" (lead guitar), Michael "Spacey" (slide and lead guitar), Scott "ScottyTunes" (fiddle, mandolin & lead guitar), and me on bass, acoustic guitar, drum programming. (Thank you guys once again for everything you added to this project!)

Here’s the link: http://soundclick.com/share?songid=8033374

Mark’s got the countrified blues leads that start the tune out and pop in and out throughout the tune, Michael’s got the slide and the lead after the bridge, and Scott’s got the fiddle and mandolin parts and the trippy guitar parts before the end that I can’t even describe!

We’d love to get your input and feedback!

Holy Cow guys, this is just awesome.   Great from start to finish.
Warren's singing Mark's soulful phrasings, Michael's bluesy slides, Scotty's wide spectrum of string colors, Dave's snug and perfect bassline and the drums were great too...what can i say?

Top shelf and thoroughly enjoyable....one of THE best.

This is marvelous.  A true cakewalk forum virtual band and you all sound like you've been playing together for years.  I could'nt single out anyone as you've all played brilliant.  Warren's voice always reminds me what a unique and talented vocalist he is.

    10/10 from me.

This has become an emotional song for me. I've listened over and over and each time it makes me cry. I salute all of you for a wonderful job! I got out my tie-dyed T shirt and danced. And then danced some more.

of all the calabs ive heard here on the forum this one
really shines on the players contributions. all of you who
played did a super great job of being unique in your style
yet it blends so well as a complete mix.

the tone of the drums caught my attention right off. for my
taste that is an awsome sound/tone on the drums. so much
so that through the whole song i was digging the drums.
allthough i really like the drums the other players do an
    awesome job as well.

Cool song.  Great performances from everyone and another outstanding vocal performance from Warren. Had me smiling from the first measure to the last. Great job, gentlemen.

Shad - you know when I first got Warren's vocal track I was smiling from ear to ear and the smile didn't leave my face as I kept getting the tracks from the other guys. Glad it made you smile too!

Rick - thanks so much man! There are a lot of flavors in this stew and they all seemed to fit together really nicely (really, really like that new song of yours BTW...)

Robby - back at you, brother - hope you're doing well...

Blipp - that's high praise coming from you - I really appreciate it!

Bill - man, I'm glad it got such a reaction from you - dance away!!!

Jimmy - well said on the blending of styles - I agree! The drums were a custom kit in Battery 3 and I was pretty happy with them myself...

    geeare1 - thank you! Yep, Warren's a keeper...

Frank - thanks so much for the comments and love the picture! I've seen a sign almost exactly like that at a thrift store before...

    Alkie - thank you!!

Not only does this song kick butt, that picture of the gentleman with the jack-o-lantern smile is fantastic!

Seriously, this is excellent work.  I know you've classified it as country, but I'm hearing it as the happiest Neil Young song ever.

Not quite my type of song, just a bit too cute for me, but there is no mistaking the quality of performances and a very professional sounding mix.

Janet - thanks! Yeah playing a live show with these guys would be an honor...

RabbitSeason - welcome to the forum and thanks for your comments! A Happy Neil Young song is a good way to describe it! I was torn between Country Rock, Southern Rock, Classic Rock... I just picked one!

Mark - yeah I felt the need to do a more lighthearted fun song this time around, after the last one ("Left Undone") was kind of somber... My emotional state seems to follow the mood of my music sometimes...
    Thanks, Herb Rampdog!

JC - I did the mixing (except Scott mixed his multiple fiddles) - but it wasn't too difficult doing the mixing when you've got such great tracks to work with!

This song turned out absolutely great.  Not only is the song (music and lyrics) a fun type of song but it has that catch to it that makes it hard to get out of your head.  Warren's singing is stellar and the instrumental contributions of everyone (Mark, Michael, Scott, and you  -- did I miss anyone) are top rate and very professional.  What absoflippinlutely great talent.

Hippies can't dance, they'er too stoned, I know this from experience.

This has Nitty Gritty Dirt Band feel, or maybe The Grateful Dead.

This was refreshing, and I can't find much to nit-pick.  Thanks for a side trip from the "norm".   HOT guitar break!
