Jim Roseberry Pretty kewl... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3rGHjZMdW4Y That is cool... But sometimes it's just quicker/easier to play the keyboard. Even if you're not particularly skilled... I agree Jiim... But, although I can do it via keyboard, I'm a guitarist...and I can think of times that I'd like to take an arrpegiated guitar part and change it to a piano part...I'm a much better (hack) guitarist then a keyboard player..

It's easier to just enter the notes in staff view. It was only a 6 note passage so maybe a minute to write it, copy it, paste it multiple times and play it.

I guess it's clever, but there's at least 4 quicker ways to do what he did within Sonar already and I haven't included v-vocal in that 4 because I've never really tried it.

I wasn't impressed by that at all. Audio to MIDI has been around for ages. What I was impressed by - and I think it might have been Abelton I saw it in - was the ability to beat box a rhythm and it will turn your voice into separate drum parts. Now that's handy.

lets see ableton deliver what I ordered / paid for 4 weeks earlier.. OH SORRY..they didn't LOL sometimes it's the simple things ... they fail on... I'm hoping bitwig will steal their thunder, their customer service can't be any worse than abletons or NI's ;-)

There is software from http://scorecleaner.com/ that can translate audio to midi on iphone. I expect it is good because their midi-to notation software for Pc and Mac is fantastic.

Even if I sometimes wish I could capture this or that groove using my guitar, I still remember my first demos recorded w/ a guitar equipped w/ a MIDI pickup and a bunch of Roland sound modules. Then I remember how much I love my MIDI keyboard. ;)

Studio One also does this rather nicely and painlessly. You use the inbuilt version of Melodyne Essentials to do it too. You do not need to upgrade to the full version. One simply records audio and then you use Melodyne to analyse it. You do not have to do any editing or anything. Once the analysis is done you simply drag the audio track onto an Instrument track and all the midi data is created instantly. Like the Ableton video you may need to fine tune a few notes here and there due to some minor misinterpretations. It is not a bad way to work either because sometimes you may just get a musical inspiration and record it with your phone etc. Then later you can extract the midi and use it play a synth or something else. The beatbox concept that sharke mentions sounds cool. I might try and figure a way around that one too. I often get ideas for grooves that way. Usually I just import the recording, tempo map it and then go about replacing the beatbox recording with the required sounds.

Jeff, the thing that has put me off with studio one.. and well a bit like cakewalk is they are US based.. and that affects the pricing .. I did look and their pricing aren't exactly good for me, compared to their euro rivals

I did look and their pricing aren't exactly good for me, compared to their euro rivals How can I word that not to violate the TOS? I may have a very reasonable offer for someone looking to buy Studio One 2.5 pro. I've already checked w/ Presonus for the license transfer but I haven't checked w/ Melodyne. If someone was interested who happen not to own Melodyne Essential, I could check w/ them how easy it is to transfer a registered license. I never use that either, but I did register it. I was going to put it on eBay, but I'd much prefer to deal w/ someone on these boards because, well, we've all been around for so long... S1 is a great piece of software but the only thing that works for me and my workflow is Logic. PM me if you seriously consider getting S1.

Fog, you can buy it secondhand, which is a good thing. Studio One version 1 goes for a pittance. Rain has the latest version available too!
