Let's EQ this solo piano, shall we? :)

Hello again - it's a solo piano composition, and there are a zillion choices for me to make as far as EQ goes. Will you help?
 
Tell me what you think this might need more of, less of, or hey it's kinda OK the way it is ??? 
 
As I'm finding out, there are a few different ways a piano can be represented by microphones. This one is close-mic'd primarily, so you can hear a fair bit o' the wood.

I've listened to Discovering You, Tom, but I can't help in anyway at all I'm afraid.
 
So, this is you playing a real piano and recording it in your studio? A novel idea LOL...
 
What are you thinking? Brighten up the highs a bit? Or just tame the mids? I dunno dood... Sounds just fine on a second listen.

Synkrotron - thanks! this is a piano instrument for Kontakt, brand new to me (Pearl) and it has some really nice close mic'ing options, but . . .
 
Rik - yes I too notice the "denseness" particularly in the low mids. I like the intimacy of a close mic but I'm trying to be clean as well . . . kind of a tough one for me to balance correctly! I checked 1:24 to 1:25 and it's a really soft strike at that point, kind of a plunk, you can barely hear the notes there. I'll mess with it . . .

Tom you are quite a talented pianist. I had no idea you play so well! I also like your sense of humor in the "Tin Foil Hat"...you were kidding right:)
 
I thought Tin Foil Hat was a perfect piano tone for this kind of a song and your voice is well mik'ed too. The second song had a darker tone to my ears and could maybe use a slight nudge in the mids...very slight. It is also nicely done and if you hadn't pointed out that you want comments on the EQ I would likely have let it go...but it is slightly darker that the first track.

Ohgrant is on to the "trick question" - although I did not state it was a real piano being played, in my opinion this Pearl (Impact Soundworks) piano, a sampled Yamaha C7 for Kontakt, is pretty amazing. It has four different mic selections, and the one I chose was a blend but primarily the close mic is dominating. I wanted opinions on how woody/wooly/muddy it was sounding, which I think is the disadvantage of a closer microphone (aka proximity effect).
All of your eq comments are helping me greatly, so thanks for the effort there!
 
Beagle I think hears the low mids problem I was having, so I'll give it another go there, thanks!
 
As for the "Tin Foil Hat" song, thanks Tim! That one is Ivory II American D, which is a sampled vintage Steinway - it's a little different animal, than the sampled Yamaha.  Thanks for appreciating the humor! I'm sure like many humorous things, it's not for everyone! And kudos to your site as well, I watched your interview with Mike Senior, he knows his stuff for sure!
 
As for the website, it's Bandzoogle.com and they are great except they don't have "volume controls" on their players. I guess you can't have everything! You Soundclouders are pretty smart, that's pretty easy. I'm just dipping my toe in the water over there.

Mix-wise, I'd like to hear just a bit more space around the piano as well.   Not a lot, I think the close-mic aspect works, but just a little presence.   The other thing that I might try is lowering the velocity of the loudest notes just a smidge since they seem to be a lot brighter than the rest.   I think that by doing that you could better gauge how adjusting the hi end affects the overall sound without those few notes getting too bright.
