Let's Not Be Scared

A really beautiful tune written by my friend, Kat Parsons. I talked her into letting me do an instrumental cover:

http://www.charleylanger.net/files/Lets_Not_Be_Scared-Charley_Langer.mp3

This was all performed by me, and recorded/mixed in Sonar 5:
  • Sax was recorded through a Beyer M160 ribbon
  • Pad is Roland JV-1080, piano is GPO, string pad in bridge is GPO.
  • Reverb is Breverb Plate, delay is Voxengo Tempo Delay.
In other words, this is all pretty "low tech" stuff.

The somewhat tricky part in covering this song is that Kat kinda half-speaks/half-sings the verses. Hope you enjoy.

I don't say this often, but this tune was almost too short.  I say that because I liked it that much.  I remember when S5 came out, and I thought it was the last DAW I'd ever need.  I did a lot of recordings through that, and I'm glad to know that someone is still using it.  Your sax is exemplary, and the song is beautiful.  A very fine job by all involved.

    All the best,

A really nice sax tune here (I used to hate sax in my youth) and the song is smooth with the piano. Good work. (Pennylane was 2 min 15 sek I think)

Yeah, Daryl... you can hear a snippet of it on iTunes (https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/lets-not-be-scared/id570552224?i=570552228&ign-mpt=uo%3D4), but she's giving the song away to those sign up for her mailing list here: http://katparsonsmusic.com/letsnotbescared/. I'm only mentioning this because you asked. Nevertheless, Kat is one of those indie artists that is out there pounding the pavement and making it happen. I realize I'm starting to sound like a Kat Parsons commercial, but I *am* very proud of her. Here's one of my favorite videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hV7_kb6VmKc. The song wasn't done in Sonar, but it's beautiful, and the video is very well for a self-produced YouTube flick.

I didn't think I was in a sad mood or anything, but hearing you play again almost brought tears to my eyes.  It's just absolutely gorgeous.  I don't even know the original tune, but I don't need to...it's a very beautiful piece and it's all played so well.  You've made GPO piano sound real good too.  (and you sound like a piano player too!)  :)

And I'm with Lynn....way too short.  I think I'll listen again.  Thanks for sharing this.
