Light of Days Gone By
A song I wrote for my son Alex. All comments are welcome. Light of Days Gone ByVerse 1 Light of days gone by The memories of my life Oh the mountains I have yet to climb But now as time moves on I hear a different song In the heart of my only son Chorus 1 He was God's gift to his mom and I that day and thru the years I've watched him grow and find his way And so the journey of my life is not my own for with his love I will never walk alone Verse 2 Finding a heart of peace At times is hard to reach when the thunder starts to roar But as a father to my boy he's dreams are now my joy thru each day and forever more Chorus 2 He was God's gift to his mom and I that day and thru the years I've watched him grow and find his way And so the journey of my life is not my own for with his love I will never walk alone Bridge The day he drew his first breath our chosen one Changed our lives forever our precious son Glory to the Father let His will be done Verse 3 Light of days gone by The memories of his life Oh the mountains he has yet to climb...

Hey James. Thank you for the listen and comments. Much appreciated. Hi Daryl. I am glad you liked it and thanks for the listen. Thank you Dan! I spent a long time on this one even though the instrumentation is minimal. It's good to know it is holding up on other's systems. Much thanks Lynn. I appreciate the voice comment. I ended up using a SM57 over my AT4040. I wanted warmer. Now if I could get it sounding like your vocal! Hi Wookie. Thanks for the listen and nice words. Hey Ed. I am glad you took a listen and liked it. Enjoying all your songs with your mates. Thanks.

Well done. I love the sentiment presented in this song. The instrumentation is very good and complements the lyrics. Your vocals are spot on --- they convey emotion without overselling the song. Beautiful song Jimmy.

@eph221 Thanks for the listen and comment. I guess I used poetic license on the lyric. Thanks for pointing out the technical issue though! Mark - thank you for stopping by and your kind words. Freddy - I appreciate the comment on not overselling the song. I tried not to. I remember producing/engineering in L.A. where I told many a young artist to let the lyrics do most of the work with emotion if the lyrics are good anyway. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and I am happy you liked it.

This is really good. Makes me feel good and blue at the same time. The bridge was effective too. Good playing too.

Paul Simon was a nerd and he's taken poetic license. I guess it's acceptable. :D:D

Nice song, Jimmy. Everything sounds really good, clear and defined. I liked some of the unexpected chord changes you used, and the guitar fills scattered throughout are pretty sweet. Oh.. and the short string part towards the end - nice touch.

Hi Steve. Thanks for the listen and nice words. It's really good to know it holds up. The bridge has some unexpected chords. As I played the piano part, I had a live mic and so I just mumbled some words and sounds for lyric placeholders and played the keys. This song fell out really fast but the lyrics and mix took months. On one of the takes, I played that bridge and just let my fingers fall. I had some clams and cleaned those up. The result suprised me! I went with it. Do I know what I am doing? Sometimes. Those times I don't usually turn out the best ideas!
