Lightning Strikes
Hi everyone, I've just uploaded the latest "live in the studio" video. The track is taken from my second solo album entitled "Living for the Moment" and the song is called "Lightning Strikes". The album was released in 2013 and was recorded in Sonar X1. I've shot four tracks from the album to include on a "Making of..." DVD in the near future. This is the final track to be filmed before going to print. Hope you enjoy, Cheers, Peter. The link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_clcfmo-77M

Sounds very good! Enjoyed the video! If I had to find something I guess it would be that I thought the bass guitar could come up just a bump, not much ,just a bump!

I really liked it. Bass and kick are too soft. There is low end but not as defined as could be. Compare this to your other song at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSXU1B61N-Q The playing is really good on both of these tracks. Love the guitar tones.

Thanks Rimshot. I hear what you're saying but the kick and bass are definitely there. In the other track there is far less going on (no double tracked backing guitars). In the multitrack the bass and kick are actually louder in this track in terms of levels. The bass is also doubling the backing guitar part and there is a bass synth as well which is probably masking the bass a bit. I do appreciate the feedback though. Cheers, Peter.

Hi Peter, if the low end works for you then I am happy. For some reason, it just doesn't come through clear on my end. I thought you should know. Here's bat's latest song where the kick and bass sounds mixed spot on: https://app.box.com/s/6j3vxpc13fdsprafbl6j

Great song and very good video. Love the guitar tones. Listening on my headphones now (neighbours...), and mix sounds great, well balanced. BTW, the drummer looks like he's really enjoying himself! Love that!

The low end always seems to get lost in digital transmission and/or video distribution/playback. Really solid arrangement. And yes, the drummer has more "presence"...very inviting. However as slick as the video production is, I tend to get bored with only music shots and wouldn't have minded some cutaways or visuals to "punch up the action". Overall super-slick and hi-tech production. Certainly worth the time and trouble to sit back, enjoy and appreciate. Thanks for the share, Peter! Cheers, Erin

Yeah.... that was really cool. Although the bottom end was a little light here as well, I didn't really care since it was a good tune! And great guitar tones as always.

Thanks for the comments, Erin. As I said in my first post, these videos are all part of a "Making of..." DVD. The shots in the studio are more of a documentary type than an actual music video. Your comments are much appreciated though. @stevec - Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers, Peter.

Just wondering if you might put some behind-the-scenes stuff in there to make the "making of" more personal. Seems like there was good response to your drummer's on-camera/stage-presence. Maybe something like that in good taste would break up the monotony. You know how ADHD everyone is these days. Thanks for your response to my original suggestion....and, the high quality production.

I absolutely agree with you. We still have to film a number of interviews regarding the actual recording, songwriting and overall production. The final DVD will run for about an hour.
Thanks for your input Boost, it's much appreciated.
Cheers
Peter.

Now you're talkin', Peter! I personally would enjoy seeing video interviews and having the feeling of being there. Really nice concept. Sure hope you will share some of those other clips and a final product. I have an affinity for behind-the-scenes clips. Have shot many in the form of documentaries and always watch them on DVD movies. Yeah...I'm one of the people who watch/read the credits to the very end. Enjoyed the Discourse, -Erin

Absolutely, Erin. When the DVD is finished I'll let you know. Send me your postal address and I'll send you a copy of the final product. That's why I still like to make cds. On the cd version I added liner notes also explaining a bit about each track, what gtrs were used, amps etc. Obviously my albums are also available for download but I've always found that reading the cd notes while listening to the album was always a nice thing to do. Cheers and thanks for the interest. Peter.

Man I wish I hadn't listened to this.....feel like throwing my guitar away now, may even have to go back to playing the cowbell. Really like the drive the music has and guitar tone was perfect for that piece. I'd be in heaven to have backup music like that to practice and jam to. Actually I'd be in heaven if I could play guitar half that good. Is the audio recording mixed on Sonar or ? capg

I love this! I, too, feel the low end is on the light side, but the snare drum sounds great. Everything else is spot on. This song raises the bar around here.

Thanks so much for the comments John, Lynn, Guitarhacker and CaptG. The song was tracked and mixed in Sonar X1. That was the latest version when I recorded the song. I used Waves compressor plug ins on the drums but all the rest of the efx used were Sonar plug ins. I could easily have used the Sonar compressors but I've been using the Waves ones for so long now that I just stuck to what I'm used to. I mastered the final track in Adobe Audition. The video was edited in Sony Vegas. Cheers, Peter.

Thanks, Peter. Really good to know what all you used to make this happen. Sounds like the right tools for the job. Love the liner note work. That is extra special, and yes, nice to read over while listening. Later, you always keep these in mind whenever listening. Nice touch. Guess that's similar to what I've been doing with descriptions on a You Tube channel I am creating...along with weblinks and keywords to help it rank. So many neat tools to work with these days. Much more affordable...and custom, than the big labels doing it all for you. In my opinion Looking forward to seeing, and hearing more! -Erin

Cheers, Erin, Especially with instrumental music you've got to make it as interesting as possible for the listener. I really hope that's what I've achieved.
