Bob- You've got a great mix going on there dude. I REALLY like the vocal treatment...reminds me a lot of early Van Halen. This isn't my normal genre, but I know how important the kick and snare are in this mix- so my only crit is to bring up that snare a dB or 2 to match the energy of the kick....or maybe it just needs a bit more snap to it... like a bit of transient shaping??? Just a thought. Great instrumentation and guitar mix. This tune is ready for the radio!!

Great song! I think the mix is great. Great voice. Few comments. The change up at 0:23 is not very smooth. Either make it more abrupt or add a measure. For the chorus, the drum pattern does not match the guitar riff. I would have a bass drum on each eighth note pattern.

The snare sounds perfect to me... the whole kit is fat and balanced... great overall mix... my only crit is the vocal phrasing on the choruses... You're singing "walkaway" in swingtime, over a straight beat... it sounds a little awkward... It's an easy enough fix with a little micro surgery & some time shifting, or just re-sing it... it's a strong track, love the lyrics...

Bob, you gave him fair warning. If he just doesn't walk away, then if's not your fault. He ought to be able to hear the conviction in your voice and the anger in your guitar and make the connection. Grab a pair of drumsticks and beat those drums until he gets the message! Darn it, now I'm angry. Darn infectious stuff you write!

Great drive in this song, and your vocals are perfect for this style. I listed for the issue with "walkaway" that was noted above, but to me it sounded fine and not awkward. Depends on what you're going for I guess - I think you've got a solid hit here! -John

Bob Power!! Hell of concept for a tune, ballsy. I like that. There is like standing wave that builds up on that steady guitar beat in the LEFT channel. It starts to be a bit much after it builds, maybe a low end EQ rolloff on that guitar. During one of the early vocal harmonies... one voice might be a tad off-key... I think. Cool lead break. I might have gone with a fading chord ending rather than the abrupt ending, even though I really like abrupt endings. Good mix. Daryl

No kidden, I'm ready to Fight! If I get her in my sight, "Boom Boom, out go the lights!" Saw Pat do it live, it was awesome. I liked this Bob. Listened twice. Takes me back to my bar fighting days (last week) You may want to look at that guitar, it seemed to be "whistling?" during the solo ;-) I might add an echo vox in a few spots, i.e., You think your tough don't try to get in my face (echo) You think your tough With the echo panned... I know, everybody's a producer? :-)

Bob-This rocks really well. I hear what Frank is saying on the choruses, personally I would keep the vox and the beat straight on the chorus. I like your decending synth line during the verses. Mix is good, vox are good, guitars sound amazing. Good one. Regards

Bob =============================================== vechung: Hi, Vicente, Thank you for stopping by to check this out for me, and for your observations, kind words and good suggestions! Yep, that first stop was meant to be a bit abrupt, but I might try putting a small pause before the clean guitar starts into the verse, just to see what happens. I'm also going to experiment with your idea for the kick drum on the choruses. Thanks again for your input and ideas, greatly appreciated, my friend! Absolutely rock solid! Quasi-musical textures and powerful lyrical textures (if that makes sense): There's a cosmic force here: "Walk Away" hooks strongly on many vertical and horizontal levels. The rhymes are super-cool, IMHO, and command the clean majestic incantation overall. (You can tell I'm at a loss of words. :):):)) My fav of yours to date and one of my favs of this forum overall!

notnat: Hey, Frank, How are you, buddy? Doing well, I hope! Thanks so much for your input, kind words and observations, I always greatly appreciate your excellent ears! Yes, Sir, I understand what you mean about the three syllable "Walk away" push into the choruses, but to be honest, LOL, I'm not quite sure what to do with it. I originally intended to have the fourth syllable be a single slapback echo. ie: "Walk away, (way) while you're still standing", but the delay echo stepped on the word "while" in "while you're still standing", so I took it out. I thought about just re-singing it as "Walk away, ay", but it still would bury the word "while", so I'm at a loss, although it doesn't really seem that awkward after hearing it a couple times. If you, or anybody else have any specific ideas or suggestions, please let me know, and Ill be very happy to give it a try. Thank you again for giving it a listen and for all of your good input, advice and encouragement here on the forum. Have a great weekend, Frank! Bob ============================================= Lynn: Hey, Lynn, LOL, yeah, when I was writing this one I may have been having a flashback from a decade of being on the road playing the biker bar circuit! But I always thought that music should make you feel something emotionally, up, down, crazy, mad, sad, or happy, and I guess this one gets some kind of message across. Thank you very much for checking it out, and for your supportive input and comments, it's always greatly appreciated, my friend. Best wishes for a rockin' weekend! Bob ============================================= JD1813: Hi, John, Thank you very much for taking time to give this a listen, and also for your kind words and encouraging comments! Yes, as I mentioned to Frank above, the "Walk Away" part didn't come out exactly as I originally intended, but I really don't think it's too distracting after a couple listens. Thanks again for stopping by on this one, I'm really grateful for your input. Have a great weekend, John! Bob ==============================================

Great tune Bob. Great energy as usual and a really fun ride. Couple ideas: - the drums are too much in your face, especially the kick. Take a listen to Whitesnake's "Slip of the Tongue". I think that a thick, kinda dull kick would apply more menace to the tune, while providing a good bottom end.
- pull an Ozzy and do the first verse with just the bass. When you bring in the guitars they will sound friggin huge.
- The chorus melody needs to flow better with the beat per Frank. Or vice versa. The Crue did that really effectively in "Wild Side".

Bob, this song is tough is strong but the kick is quick, maybe a more mettalica kick drum to beef it up, put ALOT of boost11 on that kick, keep it at the same db but push those lowend sounds that come after the initial thud so the bass drum really booms like a body blow. I know alot of people hate boost11 but I use it alot...especially on drums to get the thunder rolling... -Shawn

Freddy J: Hey, Freddy, Thank you, buddy, I really appreciate you taking time to give this a listen and also your very kind comments! By the way your latest blues song that you posted, "Slow Moe", is really a kicker, great stuff, Freddy! Thanks again, and have a great weekend! Bob ============================================= darylcrowley: Hi, Daryl, How are you, buddy? Hope you're doing great! Thanks for checking in on this one for me, and for your kind words and good input! Yes, Sir, my guitars sound a little bit different (whoofy?), than usual on this one because of a driver update for my interface accidentally switching the record bit depth down to 16 bit, and me not noticing. But I think a little more EQ surgery should be able to fix this one up again, like on my last song post for "The Same". Yep, LOL, I felt that I needed the abrupt ending in order to get the "SMACK" sound effect in at the end, just to drive the point of the song home. Thanks again for giving it a listen and your good observations, greatly appreciated, my friend! Bob ============================================= The Band 19: Hey, Robby, How's it going, bro? Doing great, I hope! LOL, yeah, I mentioned above to Lynn, I think I was channeling my old biker bar playing days, which was actually a ton of fun, believe it or not! Yeah, I loved The Pat Travers Band and saw them live four times, the first time was when they were opening for Rush. My cover band at the time ended up playing 'Out Go The Lights", "Heat In The Street" and "Snortin' Whiskey" over the years and they were always fun to play and rowdy crowd pleasers. Yep, as I mentioned to Frank up above, I actually intended to have a delayed echo slapback on this song, but during the chorus. Maybe I'll test out your suggestion for the verses just to see what happens. By the way, the remix of the Van Halen collab that you did with Mark sounds dynamite, really nice work by both of you guys! Thanks for giving this a listen and for your input, suggestions and comments, I always appreciate you stopping by, buddy. Have a good one! Bob =============================================

markno999: Hey, Mark, Thanks very much for giving this a listen and for your encouraging comments and observations! Yep, as I mentioned to Frank above, I'm not quite sure how to change the "Walk away" part of the chorus vocal to fit the straight beat any better. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated, and I'd be sure to give them a try. Believe it or not, the descending element is actually the EMG active bridge pickup of my PRS coil tapped, lo-fi eqed with a heavy tremolo added. To me also, it kind of sounded like a synth and I thought it added a cool "cleaner" sounding element to contrast the heavy guitars. LOL, you know, I'm sure you've seen "beer muscles" before. When a guy gets drunk and starts puffing up, picking fights and wants to take on every guy in the bar, including the bouncers. Every beer he drinks, he thinks he's stronger and tougher than everybody else in the joint and he wants to prove it. LOL, It usually doesn't work out very well for them. Ok Bob... here's one way to fix the chorus timing... zoom in on |AWAY| split the clip on both ends, disable snap-to, and trim the clip to make room to move the clip... zoom in closer, and slide the clip until it sounds right... or just re-sing it... or as James (YoYo) alluded to (vice-versa), change the beat to a shuffle during the choruses... that would really make it sound interesting...
