    WHAT!

    hahaha

I can take off the elephant limiter - it is pretty smashed - After I mixed - I just hit the pre set of the most smashed one called "+6 master punch" - or something like that ... yeah - u saw the wave file

maybe better off - leaving it mixed rather than sending it through Elephant

Were you trying to give me a run for your money?

Admit it... you were jealous of this beautiful wave?

I worked hard to get the top and bottom that flat......

It's a little odd hearing it start out with a female singer, but that's OK. :)  You had a whole rhythm section in your studio/living room?  What fun!  Anyway, sounds good to me.  But that's just me.  lol  The singers sound balanced, (and in tune), drums sound great and the guitar solo is a nice touch.  Well, at 3:22 when the singers come back in, it sounds a tad weak.  Or not in sync or something.  I probably wouldn't have heard it were it not accapella.  But all in all, great job!!

    Hi Mooch,

The guitars don't sound right to me, but I don't know what it is. Were they recorded via mic'd amp or direct input? It sounds a little muddy also.

I only listened to it on headphones and it seems to need some work. The vocals themselves sound good. No pitch problems, timing, or anything like that.

one guitar was recorded through a marshall mx something or another with a sure 58 mic   I should know the name its my practice amp - and the other through a line 6 pod

The pastor (guitar player) is a shredder from back in the 70's - he uses this old time distortion pedal with a harsh tone and a TON of background hum - ohh if I could get him to find a current distortion pedal or just use a nice amp with overdrive -   it was hard to eq and fix -

but i.....ts his tone - and he a great pastor and plays pretty good too  - so I dont push it - and I am not throwing him under the bus - either  because a better engineer could probably eq a nicer tone despite the harsh pedal he uses -

I wish I knew more what to do there -

That had to be pretty tough to mix that many individual vocal tracks and get them all sound so clear and distinctive. Mix overall sounds good to me but I agree something is muddying it up a tad, probably that limiter I'm thinking. Still a really great tune I enjoyed all the performances.

Due to the time limitations, I would simply remove the "elephant", and just give the "plain" mix a very mild compression to boost the volume a tadd. When you remove that elephant, you might lose a bit of volume, that is why I am thinking "mild" compression.

If you have the time, I would suggest working the individual tracks better. Each instument, every piece of percussion and each vocal could use a tweak. At least, to my ears.

I hate doing this, since you have already put a good deal of time and effort into this, but I would have approached the mix differently. And that difference in approach would have brought out a different mix, which would not need any compression or limiting. There is nothing "wrong" with your mix, it is just a difference in style that I am hearing.

If you want to send the raw tracks, I would offer my services for free, (after all, it is for a church group) and you could judge for yourself, use yours or mine, and I would never know, since the final cd burn would never be heard by me...

I am "blessed" with large amounts of time, my recent illness still has me down pretty much, but mixing is not "work". The hardest part of my day is staying awake, fatigue causes sleep to take over every couple hours, but that would not be a problem with a song on the 'puter.

I think I know what Bub and grant are hearing now after listening hard in my cans

on some rhythm guitar parts - I panned right - (when the lead is playing licks in verse one and two)

     - I have the rhythm guitar that is panned right getting hit with some reverb and..... I think thats the mud you hear it only happens during the verses when the lead guitar is playing a lick -  and the mud is coming from the right when the reverb gets turned on and off the rhythm guitar in the right can - (maybe the left depending on how your speakers or cans are)

it was actually intentionally  - the mud wasn't intentional - but ... it wasn't muddy enough for me to take the reverb off in that spot - and its much muddier in the cans then the my monitors

so yeah - ehh if I get chance to remix I'll look at those spots again.... but its not "bugging me"

Nothing in the first mix was a real deal breaker for me, really a nice overall mix that could pass as a pro mix.  It's certainly better than I could have done.  I have a feeling your song was annexed by the moobid one, looking forward to hearing it again.
