Line6 POD question.

Do any of the different POD's have the ability to control the POD via your PC?
I know you can edit sounds and such, but what I am wondering is can you actually make setting changes (like which amp and which effects are currently being used) with software, and not have to punch it in on the little faceplace buttons?

I second that. That MIDI cable into the POD (2.0 for me) opened up all sorts of possibilities; that, and the downloadable tones.

I'll third this! I use Line6 edit as well, and it works really well! Way better than the Soundiver software that came with it! You can make some changes that you cannot access on the actual pod itself(noise gate/wah settings) Here's the link!

I have the edit program, but I haven't really dug into it yet. I thought it was just for editing sounds and then saving them to the POD. I didn't know you could actually control the POD through that software. That is awesome. I've only had my PODxt for about 3 months and really haven't done that much with it. I'll have to start digging into that software and see what I can do.

    Thanks all.

Not only can you edit and tweek the sounds from your computer, but you can save all of the settings on your computer. I have a list of the guitar sounds I use for different songs they were used on. If you ever want to punch in a new part, the sound is perfect.

As others have said, Yes. You can even use edit to go get settings online, and just by clicking here what it sounds like in your system. If you have the POD XTL there is another program you can use as well (I think it's Guitar Port)... in any case, if you have the XTL, get Line6 Monkey and it will automagically show you what all is available.

There is a Cakewalk Studioware panel for the first version of Pod (and most probably work with 2.0 too). It allows (or used to allow) to control Pod from Sonar. It made sense because many of the original Pod' s features only were MIDI programmable. I have an XT Live now, and I see no real advantages in using a remote editor to program it when those "little faceplate buttons" are just where I play (several feet away from my DAW).

What I do is programming in the unit itself and if I want to store the edits with the song I send a sysex dump request from Sonar to the Pod from Sonar' s Sysex View, and I get the Pod to dump the edit buffer in a sysex bank. By the way, the PODxt Edit Buffer Dump Request is F0 00 01 0C 03 75 F7 (this is not in the manual and Line6 support people are very reluctant to speak about the sysex implementation). Just add it in your Cakewalk.ini file and it will appear in the Sysex View menu. For changes of a few parameters, or continuous changes, I could use the MIDI controllers (I even wrote a definition file when I got the XT), but, to be honest, I never do since I do not reamp and stick to pretty basic tones.
