Line6 UX1 problems in Home Studio 2XL

I just got the Line6 UX1 and everytime I open my Home Studio version 2 XL, the Cakewalk program freezes up and I have to turn my computer off. Why would this happen? I've used the Line6 PODxt for recording with my Home Studio 2XL for a long time without any problems, what's different about the UX1? Why is it crashing Home Studio?

    Hi there Secho

The main difference is that your UX1, when connected with the USB cable and set up correctly, will actually become your system soundcard.

Have you installed the GearBox software that came with your TonePort?

    SteveStrummerUK,

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I've downloaded GearBox and all, but when I open GearBox then Home Studio it gets stuck. As soon as I click on anything like Options, or whatever, I get the (Not Responding) at the header and it freezes up. Then the menu bar actually disappears. I've actually tried opening Home Studio then GearBox, but it does the same thing. Any ideas? Thanks again!! I'm baffled.

    Hopefully!

Open HS first and select Options>Audio, then click on the Advanced tab - select ASIO from the driver options and restart HS.

You can control the ASIO settings in GearBox from Help>Hardware and Driver settings

I'm not familiar with HS2 I'm afraid but I am with the TonePort stuff - if those options aren't available in HS2, you may have to wait for someone else to put you straight.

    Hope it does work though

    SteveStrummerUK,

Thank you! That worked perfectly. I could stay in the Cakewalk program and record. Thanks!
Although a new problem occurred when I tried to update my drivers and GearBox via Line6 Monkey. For some reason it won't let update correctly. During the Windows New Hardware Wizard I get a message: Files Needed - 'L6TPortA.sys' on (Unkown) is needed. Type the path where the file is located, and then click OK

It then kept asking for various files, and I found them, but had to go step by step through the Line 6 drive folder. I don't understand why it would do that. I never had problems with installing new stuff before. I actually found found the drivers, but it wouldn't update to the latest version of drivers from Monkey. Does this sound like a defect to you?

    Windows XP / AMD 64 Athlon X2 / Dell 1501

    Thanks for you help!!

Hey - glad to here you're recording again!

As to the Line 6 Monkey updates Secho, the latest updates are directed at Vista 64bit users - if using them is giving you a problem, it may be worth while checking in the Line 6 forums.

    SteveStrummerUK,

That makes a lot of sense, thank you!! I updated all the downloads that only pertained to XP (for the UX1), and it totally worked. Thanks so much for helping me clear this up, and on to recording with my new gear. I'm very grateful.
