Linkin park effects...

Hi guys, I like Linkin Park a lot, but i make music more close to pop/rock. But I noticed one cool "effect" they have in their songs for instance in their song "Breaking the habit". Its like...like if youre CD is stuck in the player. It's really cool if used as a kick. I cant really explain otherwise, but if you know the song or have listened to it you'll know what i mean. Question is; any idea how that is done? Sampler? or any other plug-in.

Sounds like it could be something similar to beat repeat out of live , or replicant by audio damage.

Yah it's just a stuttering effect. You could techinically just chop up your song and copy clips and do it that way, but it'll take a while.

You could assign the part to a key on a sampler and just hold it down. Skinny Puppy was doing this back in the '80s. So was Max Headroom, if you remember that (and sheesh Art of Noise... i could go on...)

A recent notable example is "Praise You" by Fatboy Slim, who chops up his lifted vocal like that.

Glitch can do it, and so much more, it's a monster.

Glitch! Yes it's a monster. And a lot of fun to work with. Has anyone tried BigSeq2 by Audio Damage? I'm evaluating it now.

Not to hijack this thread, but maybe you can shed some light. When using something like Glitch or BigSeq, they always sync to tempo automatically. And they always cycle back to either the first step or a step that's some multiple of 4, when the meter is 4/4. OK.

But if there's a meter change, say, for one measure of 3/4 or 5/8, and then it goes back to 4/4, from that point forward Glitch and BS2 are off by the meter difference, that is, 2/8 (=1/4) or 3/8 (the diff between 5/8 and 8/8.) I hope that made sense. Even if I start playback after the return to 4/4, it's still off by that difference.

Is there some way to get these things to actually recognize *measure* starts, and not simply count absolute beats and assume a 4/4 meter?

Hard to imagine that it's not possible for them to resync after a meter change, but I can't figure it out.

    Thanks!
