Linux Sampler on X1d Expanded works...?
OK...
In my growing need to move to a 64bit OS, one of the final stumbling blocks for me is getting my Giga libraries running when using Sonar x64...
I've been using VSampler which is DXi... the vst version is not active, only demo as it wasn't part of the Sonar bundle as vst....
So I tried linux Sampler the other day and couldn't get it to work.... I tried aggain today and had some of the same issues, but I did manage to get the 32bit version working in X1 x64 with one of my Will Lee Basses (from Gigasampler Library)... <whew>...
But it sure is "sticky".... First off the installer asks whether to 'also install" the 32bit version after detecting the 64bit OS... But no 64bit Linux sampler appears after running a vst scan... Only the 32bit...
It loaded the Giga library straight away, but I see that it actually runs a wrapper then loads a program called Fantasia (front end).... OK... Lots of names to keep me confused.... there are other "devices" included.... The Linux way... ;-)
I was pleasantly surprised that not only is the instrument playing, but it cured a nasty problem with the looping of one note/sample that I was never able to fix...
Weird? For a few minutes I discovered that when the Fantasia front end was on top, the Sonar Audio engine shut down.... bringing Sonar to top turned the engine back on and any MIDI driving the synth works fine.... then I found that I can (sometimes) have fantasia on top and the engine isn't going off? I'm a bit confused at the moment as well as suffering the learning curve of another new sample player.... This one seems to speak of instruments and orchestras (the latter I'm guessing might be a multi-instrument load?)
Well... I just thought to post this as I believe there are others in similar situations and in need of a Giga-capable sample player in the 64bit world that is free!
Here's a link for anyone interested...
I used the latest build which is:
