I dual boot Ubuntu (linux) and Vista but I don't use Ubuntu for music. Using Ubuntu for day to day computer "stuff" lets me keep all of those programs off of the Vista side DAW. Sonar and Vista run a lot smoother. I have read about some success with Reaper on Linux but the weak link is the lack of support for audio interfaces.

Linux is an operating system, which was originally created for a hobby is a young student, Linus Torvalds, a University of Helsinki, Finland. Linus was interested in Minix, a small UNIX, and decided to develop a system that exceeded the Minix standards.

I have to say that my experience with using Linux for audio has been fantastic so far. I switched over to Linux in 2005 as I had been very frustrated with Windows for some time. I had no intention at the time that that computer would eventually become a DAW. I did do a fair amount of research into hardware for Linux compatibility in general and not into Linux Audio. I currently use Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit. It is very stable, easy to set up and maintain. My reasoning behind sticking with Linux for a DAW that I have setup was part monetary and part ideological. I strongly support the Open Source and Free Software movements. (Free as in Speech, not free as in beer). Also, I was able to use my exisitng machine and with very little cost was able to get up and running. I purchased the UA-25EX after doing a fair amount of research into compatibility. There was zero install required. I powered down my machine, plugged the UA-25 in and it was recognized and fully functional immediately. For software there is a wide array of Audio software available for free (as in beer). I am currently using Jack, Ardour, Rackarack, ZynAddSubFX. These were all free and very stable and robust. Yes, for some it may be a paradigm shift to be using the OS as the DAW and not a stand-alone software but for me it allows greater flexibility. just my $0.02

I have read about some success with Reaper on Linux but the weak link is the lack of support for audio interfaces. In principle all you need is this: http://sourceforge.net/projects/wineasio/ Then any soundcard that's supported by linux will be accessible. I didn't get as far as putting this driver in but I can confirm (because I did it this weekend) that Reaper installs and loads very happily on Ubunutu (10.10). Child

Linux is a technically advanced: Linux is so damn hard to learn, install, use and configure. Especially configure. Linux is highly configurable: Nothing works right away. To make your Linux system to work, you need ten hours to configure every little piece of your system before you can start using it.

Linux is simply an operating system. Is the software on a computer that allows applications and the computer operator to access computer devices to perform the desired functions. The operating system (OS) relays instructions from an application, for example, the computer processor. The processor executes the task and then sends the results to the application via the operating system.

All of kendricknds' posts are for spam purposes (and obviously translated - poorly - from another language). I just reported him to see if the mods can remove his drivel.
